The term “greenback” became synonymous with paper money in general, even after the retirement of Civil War greenbacks. Today, standard U. S. dollars are considered greenbacks in this broad sense.

However, specific Civil War-era Greenbacks are still remembered for their historical role, and numismatists and history enthusiasts sometimes use “greenback” to refer specifically to Demand Notes and Legal Tender Notes issued in the 1860s.

  • We had our refrigerator warranty insured with Assurant appliance insurance.. We renewed the policy faithfully for 15 years. They would send us a notice to renew every September and we would send the yearly renewal fee. But we discovered a couple of months ago that once your refrigerator gets too old, they apparently stop sending the notices, in the hope that you wont notice, because they don’t want to insure older appliances even though they guarantee they will continue to offer the insurance for the life of the appliance. If you insure an appliance with these people, you better keep track of the warranty renewal date yourself once it gets old, instead of relying on them. Once the policy is lapsed, they will not allow you to renew it.
