The Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver has recently completed several upgrades to improve rider safety, including the ability to look inside its buses for real-time issues. Between 2012 and 2023, RTD undertook 17 isolated projects in the central corridor to replace sections of curved rail, switches, crossings, signals, and other rail. Starting in May, the first of multiple buses along the 40 route will run every 15 minutes on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Seasonal adjustments will be made along the 11, 20, 24, 30, 51, 65, 73, 204, and other routes.
The RTD restructured its forces into four patrol-specific impact teams, focused on bus, rail, community engagement, and mental health. As it staffs up and finishes repairs, officials say they can start bringing some of the routes back. The technology, which began installing in 2023 for “emergency situations”, will allow the agency to get a clearer picture of safety. More than 200,000 passengers rode the new system during its opening weekend.
RTDs account for a 3.06 percent market share of the overall spirits category in Q1 2023, increasing from 2.66 percent in the previous quarter. Since late July, dispatchers have been able to see and hear live inside RTD buses, and it has been shown to have improved safety.
