A remodel is a home improvement project that involves adding or constructing something new, such as replacing existing bathroom tiles, showers, tubs, toilets, and vanity. It involves updating an existing structure with cosmetic changes, while a renovation focuses more on making significant changes to the space.
Renovation is considered cosmetic improvements to a space that don’t involve changing its intended purpose. In contrast, a renovation focuses on making something new out of an old structure, such as fixing or refreshing a room without changing its purpose. A renovation project is typically smaller than a remodel, and it aims to make a space more functional and attractive.
Renovations involve minor updates to existing structures or replacing some appliances, while remodeling focuses on making something new out of something old. Renovating involves upgrading basic features, repairing, etc., while remodeling involves complex movement, construction, and/or redesign.
Renovations are quick projects with minimal labor and material costs, while remodeling involves large changes to the home, including fixing or refreshing a room. The key differences between renovation and remodeling include the time, cost, and type of home alterations involved.
Remodeling is ideal for improving the functionality and layout of a home, but it will typically cost more and take longer than a renovation. The difference between renovating and remodeling comes down to how drastically you’re changing a room, which affects design and construction.

Remodeling is a process that involves restructuring a property, such as expanding a kitchen, adding a bathroom, or building a sunroom. It also involves major tasks like relocating infrastructure, such as adding or replacing electrical wires, plumbing, or adding central AC to a historic home. These tasks often require permits or approval from local authorities, especially for historically registered properties. When hiring a contractor, it is essential to choose the right type for the project.
For large projects involving multiple surfaces and systems, a general contractor is the best option, as they work with subcontractors and set up a schedule. For smaller jobs, hiring subcontractors may be possible, but it requires managing schedules and budgets while making design decisions.

📹 To Build New? or Remodel?
From my experience, here are some thoughts, things you may not have considered before. For help in managing the build or …
I appreciate your insight from a builder point of view and adding value to your home. Simply because a new home is new and thus more valuable than a 70 year old remodeled one, I’d say that adds value as well. Now what if I wanted to keep that 70 year old concrete block bungalow and remodel it just enough to rent it out and add a 2 story new shipping container addition to the back? Basically creating 2 separate homes, but attached to create one, on my property? The existing does need new bathroom and kitchen and floor and electric and plumbing. Yes, all that, but not changing lay out or walls or roof? I’m thinking it would generate rental income of $1500 month, instead of just having a home for ourselves? Remodel would be 50k so it would take about 5 years to break even.
I just purchased land that I’m wanting to turn into a ranch. It has a old house on it,maybe 1930s model, and we’ve been undecided on what to do. The house is built around the fireplace and is kinda odd how they built it but it has potential; it seems to be solid just outdated inside and out. With prices the way they are im really leaning to remodeling.
