What is eclectic interior design?
Eclectic interior design is a unique and personalized style that blends different eras, styles, textures, and colors to create a unique and personalized look. It allows for creativity and freedom in choosing pieces, as there are no strict rules to follow. The word “eclectic” derives from the Greek word eklecktikos, meaning “to select”. To achieve an eclectic look, start by selecting a suitable color palette, such as yellow, green, ochre, turquoise, or red. A more subdued assortment of colors can give a peaceful and comfortable feel, while a brighter combination brings high energy and a sense of fun.
Add pattern and color to your room withrugs and wallpaper, characterized by bold colors and repetitive images. A Palais printed rug is a whimsical addition, while an accent wall picture frame can make a statement in any room. Molding like 123 Base Cap can be used to design rectangular or square panels for a timeless addition.
Eclectic interior design is most aligned with subsections of the style, such as boho eclectic or glam eclectic. Boho eclectic uses a texture-filled and nature-inspired palette, while glam eclectic uses deep colors and elegant statement pieces. Both can overlap, creating a dreamy feel with patterned canopy over a bed, end tables with greenery and odd trinkets, and contrasting pillows for visual weight.

What is the art term for tacky?
Kitsch is a term used to describe art and design that is perceived as naïve imitation, overly eccentric, gratuitous, or of banal taste. The modern avant-garde traditionally opposed kitsch for its melodramatic tendencies, superficial relationship with the human condition, and naturalistic standards of beauty. In the first half of the 20th century, kitsch was used to refer to mass-produced, pop-cultural products lacking conceptual depth. However, since the emergence of Pop Art in the 1950s, kitsch has gained highbrow appeal, often wielded in knowingly ironic, humorous, or earnest manners.
While branding visual art as “kitsch” is often pejorative, it can also be enjoyed in a positive and sincere manner, such as in the Dogs Playing Poker paintings. The term “kitsch” can be enjoyed in a quaint or “quirky” manner without being offensive on the surface.

The balance between whimsy and gothic elements is crucial, as it often involves a combination of light and dark, playful and serious elements. Examples of whimsigoth fashion include frilly, lacy dresses with dark makeup and accessories, or whimsical decorations in dark, ornate rooms.

You always turn stuff to gold! ❤❤ so I’ve been collecting IOD molds and your paint little by little. And I went to make my first mold. The pumpkin. And I wanted to put it on a terra-cotta jar which I painted white. Lol you have instructed us so well how to use these things and what to do to save us time and pain. And somehow I didn’t listen. I made the molds, I glued them down, but I didn’t tape them with masking tape to keep them from sliding down and now I have a bunch of saggy pumpkins. 🤣🤣🤣 I used to paint when I was younger but somehow I’ve forgotten how to paint and really it looks like a really sad first grade painting situation. I’m really sad but I know there’s a learning curve when you’re getting back into being creative. I’ve been depressed for so long and unmotivated and I’m attempting. Lol but thank you because you’re bringing me back to life! ❤❤❤
When I first stumbled on your website, it was because of boho decor. I adore you, your family and your imagination. I’m not really a crafter, but enjoy seeing the things you come up with. I am an artist living in Oregon, but I grew up in So. Cal. I watched this challenge and am perusal your friends and what they came up with. Love to you and your family.
Every project is so beautiful I could cry. You always do what I would do, Debi. That lamp is simply Devine, so regal. The little lavender box…oh my goodness. That is delicious. I cannot help but embellish, embellish, embellish….thank goodness for the IOD sisters, Josie and Sally…! Thank goodness for you!
Ya know how men who admire other men are said to have a man-crush or even a bro-mance? Well, I have a crafty-crush on Debi. Oh my gosh I love love love everything she adds molded air dry clay to!! And the paint… the way she blends and anything with blue green purple together I drool over. I’m on the OTHER coast so I can’t run into her in the thrift store. My daughter loved when she painted the couch. I’ve never forgotten that article. One day….when we stumble upon the right velvet couch….
Honestly I was disappointed in all the flips but if I had to pick one it would be Ellen J goods- only because they both fit in with her aesthetic so well (even though it isn’t my aesthetic) and one item was also practical. I do think however that the challenge was a great idea and hope that you make that a regular thing with other Youtubers…maybe 4x a year for every season?
So glad you covered the shade, it looks amazing with all your pillows…and that lavender box(WOW) what great thrift stores you have…this is gonna be fun…Zeb, what a hoot…so happy to see your article pop up, it made my day considering we just went through crazy hurricane Helene…we survived, my yard is a mess, but by the grace of God I have electricity to watch your article and bring smiles over the tears…thanks Deb n Elli…!
