In what order do you finish a house?

The construction process involves several stages, including site preparation, foundation pouring, rough framing, rough plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, insulation, drywall, interior primer finishes, and finishing interior trim. The first stage involves clearing the site of debris, leveling the ground, putting up wooden forms, digging holes and trenches, installing footings, and if the home will have a well, dug it at this point. If the home is designed with a full basement, the hole is dug, footings are formed and poured, and foundation walls are formed and poured.

If the home is slab-on-grade, footings are dug, formed, and poured, and the area between them is leveled and fitted with utility runs. Concrete is poured into the holes and trenches, and it takes time to cure. After cured, waterproofing membrane is applied to the foundation walls, drains, sewer and water taps, and plumbing are installed. Residential buildings use a variety of materials for interior finishes and space-division systems, including gypsum board, a prefabricated form of traditional wet plaster, which is cast between paper facings to form large panels that are nailed to light timber or metal frameworks. Gypsum board forms the substrate for various materials, including thin wood-veneered plywood and vinyl fabrics, and is often used in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

Doors in residential buildings are usually hollow-core, with thin veneers of wood glued over a honeycomb paper core and solid wood edge strips. Plastic laminates bonded to particleboard are extensively used for built-in cabinets and countertops. The most common floor finish is carpeting, mostly made of synthetic fibers, which is easy to maintain and has soft visual and tactile texture. Hardwoods, primarily oak, birch, and maple, are also used for floors, either in traditional narrow planks nailed to plywood decks or as prefabricated parquet elements. Vinyl-composition tiles or ceramic tiles are used in wet or hard-use areas.

Domestic water-supply systems for low-rise residential buildings have two sources: municipal water-distribution systems or wells drilled to underground aquifers. Water is drawn from the wells using small submersible electric pumps, and underground exterior water-supply pipes are typically cast-iron with threaded connections. Copper tubing with soldered connections is used for distribution due to its corrosion resistance and ease of fabrication. The domestic water supply is divided into cold and hot systems, with cold water being piped directly to fixtures.

Ultra Flat paint is ideal for interior walls due to its exceptional durability, washability, and stain resistance. It is suitable for high-traffic areas and has a smooth application process. Flat paint, with its velvety, matte look, is suitable for hiding wall imperfections but is less durable and doesn’t stand up well to scrubbing. Although many paint formulas clean up easily with soap and water, people still prefer other sheens for easier care. Semi-gloss and gloss paint are best for trim and woodwork.

  • Congratulations! What a lovely house.. The interior design, and the neutral color makes your house looks so cozy and elegant. Ganyan din po ang style na gusto walang cove lights. If you don’t mind gusto ko sana malaman ang length and width ng iyon bahay para mag ka idea po ako. May maliit na lupa na nabili sa Leyte 200 sqm at 10 meters ang lapad. Salamat..

  • I do house renovation in America. I would like to suggest if you don’t mind, I think a bigger chandelier on top of your staircase would be beautiful. Also, if you could add nice cabinet handles on your kitchen cabinet doors. If you could change your cabinet handles in the master bathroom into black ones to match your black faucet and shower head.

  • This house is going to last hundreds of years. I understand all the threats of typhoons and other natural disasters, but is it necessary to build houses there with steel, blocks, and concrete? I wonder if woods are more expensive than blocks. In the US, after concrete foundation, everything else is made of wood & plywood framing, then stucco walls (plaster on exteriors). They can get it done in 3 months, even earlier if you need to—just my observation with limited construction experience.
