  • This is the logical conclusion of current car buyer trends and the irrationality of American buyers. Its a Mid Sized CUV with a turbo charged engine geared toward emissions and fuel economy with sporty suspension, no manual option and an appearance package. Its the most cynical piece of machinery I’ve ever seen since Nissan turned the Pathfinder into a borderline Minivan. This thing is soulless and will be remembered as the vehicle that proved that car manufacturers could actually sell themselves out even harder than they did in the early 2000s. Buyers want something sporty but they don’t want a sports sedan or coupe. They want something fuel efficient and cheap to maintain but they won’t buy a compact 4 cylinder car. They want cargo space but refuse to buy station wagons or even hatchbacks anymore. And then everyone complains when they end up spending 40 grand on a Crossover cause they wanted everything in one package including an assload of unnecessary safety gizmos that are gonna break in a few years and leather seats they didn’t need. If any of you want to support this instead of cars that are actually good, you go right ahead. I’m just gonna save up and stop eating so much overpriced fast food so I can have an actual sports car on the side instead of whatever this confused amalgamation of plastic and cheap iron is supposed to be.

  • Gee – put a tune on the outgoing Edge Sport and upgrade the sway bars and charge thousands more! Brilliant! I owned a 2011 and then a 2016 Edge Sport – in every way the 2016 was much better than the previous normally aspirated (3.7l) based Edge. I’m glad to see that Ford is continuing on with these improvements.

  • I don’t like how it doesn’t have a dedicated tachometer. You either have to switch between viewing the tach or the boost gauge. No bueno but the car is pretty nice though. Glad Ford is developing exciting cars to drive yet I wish the prices weren’t so high because dealers rape the consumer with this dealer markups.

  • If you want one vehicle for all your needs all year round that will handle almost any road condition but you also want to have fun driving it then these sporty suvs are perfect. Don’t know why everyone is bitching about it, not all of us have the money or space for multiple vehicles that serve multiple purposes. This is a jack of all trades, master of none but still pretty damn good at all of them. They’re also incredibly safe and they have more versatility than 95% of the population will need from any type of vehicle 95% of the time. I think it’s a pretty damn good rig….

  • I work in the plant in Oakville, Ontario that makes these. Chances are 50/50 that I brought those rotors, calipers, H-arms, half shafts, (and too many other parts to list) to the line, (as I drive a forklift). So if something goes wrong with your suspension, it was probably the guy on B Shift. 🤣 Jk, jk. We take our jobs seriously. Crazy that this popped up on my feed though.

  • $55.000.- for all that cheap plastic, small screen, and no digital cluster??? Audi Q5 is actually cheaper, when spec’d comparable, matter of fact, comes stock with more than this POS Ford comes with and does 0-60 in less than 6 seconds as well. With a single turbo and a 2.0l engine. Bump it up, and you can actually get a base SQ5 with 3.0l twin turbo which does 0-60 in 5 seconds or less….also, I bet an Audi’s value won’t drop like that of a Ford.

  • A guy could spend a few hundred bucks and get this 2.7L tuned to be a real beast. (there are hordes of articles showing the F-150 2.7L tuned doing 0-60 in 4.5 seconds). Another point is that the U.S. car makers philosophically price the MSRP for huge discounts. You can get an Edge ST for low-40s if you want, and loaded comfortably under $50k.

  • That interior looks kind of cheap. Those switches for the heated seats are quite cheap. I like when the engineer says they went with “vented” brake rotors, like that is some new tech. This thing has a lot of power and torque but is miles behind other small suv’s like the Mazda Cx5 as far as style and interior design, and surely the price puts it in competition with european vehicles.

  • Just don’t get the negative comments. For an SUV in the 40k range new, this is pretty awesome. It costs less than an Audi Q5 2.0T – an SUV with a very generic and comparatively weak engine that you can get in a $19000 VW, and very plain looks. It’s in the same price range as an Acura RDX AWD 6-cyl tech package, or an AWD QX60 – and both of those SUVs have 0-60 times over 7s while this one is likely to have low 5s 0-60. Like TFL said, to get this kind of performance from an SUV you have to break into the 65K+ range, while you can get it with the Edge ST for mid 40k range. I think the look, for an SUV, is also pretty awesome compared to the others. If you see this SUV on the road, you’ll know there is something special about it just from the styling. When was the last time you thought there was something special about an RDX, QX60, or a Q5?

  • Took a serious look at the 2018 Ford Edge Sport earlier this year. I liked it. My wife (who is the daily driver of the vehicle) not so much. For 2019 Ford has added a little power, an eight speed transmission (versus the previous six speed), and some bells and whistles that Ford claims merits the ST badge. All of that comes with a significant price increase. I’ll withhold judgment since I haven’t driven it but I’m skeptical that it’s worth the price bump, especially since in terms of pure acceleration it seems to have lost a bit compared to the Edge Sport. (Perhaps a result of tire choice?) Based on its merits as a suburban hauler with mild off-road capabilities it’s a mixed bag. About the same size as the Kia Sorento the Edge doesn’t offer third row seating. The tow rating has been upped from a paltry 2000 lbs to 3500 but that still trails the Sorento’s 5000 lbs. The interior is attractive but hardly cutting edge (and definitely not eye catching. What’s with the toy tach on the left side of the instrument cluser?) I do like the 2.7 V6 twin scroll turbo so if one is looking for a peppy, relatively affordable crossover, it’s worth checking out. But ultimately I had to agree with my wife that the V6 Sorento was a better choice. I don’t think the updated version of the Sport would lead to a different conclusion.

  • I love ford to death. But there’s no way in the world I’d buy this for $55k when I could purchase a 2018 Audi SQ5 for $55k. I love what they’re trying to do but these prices on newer vehicles are astronomical for what they are. Someone help me to understand why both the Audi sq5 and Ford Edge St cost the same but the edge does 14.2 in the quarter mile and the Audi does 13.1…… Plus build quality comparisons!

  • So I had a 2011 Edge Sport and it was a nice crossover, but after 8 years, the interior and dash look the same. The dash was fine then, but bland. Ford you need to get with the times and put in a virtual cockpit or improve the look. 0-60 time is slow for the ST…under 6 seconds is not quick these days with this upgraded engine. Exterior looks nice though.

  • I can’t wait for it to hit the streets getting rid of my escape 2.0 Turbo for this car. As my daily driver will be great… can tow my bikes to the drag strip and leaves my Shelby in the Garage keeping the miles down on it…win win for me 🙂 Price well a little high but like I have done all my cars except the Stangs I will buy used with 5-8K miles on it and save another 8K off the sticker of new. I don’t trust buying mustangs used I know they get run hard allot of times but this vehicle whoever buys it I doubt is taking it to the track although I guess you could but should be safe getting a used one.

  • Now that Ford are getting rid of their car lineup maybe they can use that money to improve that hideous interior. Black seats are the only available color. C’mon this aint back in Model T days. If Kia can make their cars more attractive and they been around less than forty years. C’mon Ford you been making cars for over 100 years.

  • They should’ve made it an Edge Raptor instead. It’s much easier off roading than cornering at this high off the ground. They can stiffen suspension all they want, but they can’t beat physics. Would’ve been fine with this if it were just an addition to the ST lineup and not a total replacement. Guess I’ll have to look elsewhere for an enthusiast’s car.

  • You have to wonder how all the people who have the models Ford is cancelling feel about having a model that is now worth even less. Wonder how many will jump for their “New” models? Looks like Ford is beginning to do as a lot said before; SUCK! They know what they can do with their 70 grand F 150 and their likely 50 grand “Ranger”. 55 grand Edge ST made in Canada: Horse manure.

  • I am sooooo glad I got a 2018 Edge Sport…not only is the 2018 better looking, but it has most of the features that Roman says he likes and I got mine Fully Loaded (No Winter Package) for $39,950 before taxes!! I am going to add Bilstein Shocks ($400.00) and a tune..370hp/400tq ($500.00) and it will be almost perfect!!

  • With the previous model the edge sport doing 0 to 60 in 5.6 seconds, this car has 20 horsepower, 30 ft lbs torque more. With a better suspension and 8 speed trans with better gearing then the previous models 6 speed . Low 5 second 0 to 60 times easily and high 13 seconds quarter mile. All you need is a Livernois tune and it will cut those times dramatically, they gained with no other mods besides tune and 93 octane. 100 horsepower and torque with the Previous model Edge Sport!

  • Screw you haters! I ordered one! Why should people that need to haul their kids, pets, and all their gear have to drive boring, ill handling, slow vehicles? Look outside your tiny world and see that there are other people out there with different lifestyles. Sure, I could have bought a Bimmer or Audi, but to get the tech I got with this, the Bimmer would have been in the 60’s! My invoice loaded without the 2600 dollar brake package was 48. My current ’17 Durango R/T does 0-60 in the mid sixes so anywhere around that area and I’m happy. It’s my DD, NOT a track tool. Ford made an SUV that is more fun to drive. I don’t see the issue.

  • Interior on these are super cheap. I know cause I have one, an edge se. Piano black plastic is nasty and scratches easily and the cheap plastic on the dash and infotainment creaks and rattles constantly. Really disturbing that the same materials are being used in a msrp car over 50k. Just step up and get a damn audi with way better fit and finish thats actually worth the price. Ford is really overcharging for cheap shitty materials and pricing themselves out of their own price bracket and stepping into entry luxury level, which it is not. Its cheap and I dont recommend this vehicle to anyone, period.

  • As an American, I want to support American car makers. But as soon as I saw that 10 years old infotainment screen, I stopped the article. I don’t care if it has lane keep assist, F150 engine etc… If you’re giving me that screen, there is no way I am a buyer for this vehicle. Period. What is it like 5″ ? and the resolution from 80s…. Dissappointing

  • So it doesn’t compete with the similarly priced XC60 which has nearly 100 more horse power, air suspension, heated and cooled front and rear seats, 4 zone climate control, higher top speed, better acceleration, better towing capacity, better all wheel drive system, better stereo, better looks. Oh yeah and the best seats in the world Edit: Even safer, and way better fuel economy and a longer warranty

  • Old fred had a half dozen fords, got to know the fellas in service dept. real good, the Mrs. told me I was a slow learner. It’s like my pappy used to say some peoples is real smart and some peoples is real stupid too. Fred drives a Toyota now, them fellas in the service dept. at Toyota never see old fred.

  • Thinking on how much money Ford saves by using the same dashboard (gauges) in almost all cars and SUVS since 2013. I’m not criticizing because it’s very beautiful and brings a lot of info, (but it’s not that sporty). From the Fusion, Taurus to Cmax, Explorer, Expedition and even some Lincolns. They change a trim or background color, but it is the very same dash. I bet this bring scale and probably replacing costs down. My only advice it would be for ST models they could create a different design, maybe using a tachometer instead speedometer as the main gauge.

  • I’d take the Acura RDX over this any day. The RDX is less expensive with the base model being cheaper but also having lots of features that are optional of the Ford, better fuel economy, and lots better warranty. The Acura is not as quick, but hardly slow. And the AWD is Acura’s Super Handling AWD which has been touted as one of the best systems around, for years.

  • Put this against the 2017 INFINITI QX70, it’s faster than this thing with 10 less HP AND NO TURBOS! FORD brags about it having the most HP of any V6 in its class and yet the ACURA MDX A-SPEC with only 290HP and 267 LB-FT of torque can almost exactly match it’s 0-60 times… Both the INFINITI and ACURA are higher quality for the same price and better looking!What’s FORD doing with that extra 45HP and 113 LB-FT LOL… NOTHING!

  • Definitely a fail by Ford not because of this vehicle but because they assume all their customers can afford $40k+ vehicles. Ummmmmm most ST drivers get fiestas and focus because it’s a fast, fun car under 30k. I want an ST but can’t afford 42k. I need two cars in my family. One is a fiesta and the other will be used. But 42k for your only ST is a massive fail. Sorry. I will go buy a car because I still like a car in my household.

  • At $55k fully loaded the Ford is not even close to a bargain or in its playing field. I don’t see the value or someone who would pick this over a Lexus, Acura, MB, BMW, Audi etc. at 375hp it’s a bad value and we all know the resale will be horrible. Ford you are over priced by $7k – $10k for car… oops cuv, now bump hp to 450 it may justify price as it can compete with Audi Q5RS.

  • LAME! The “performance” market is really becoming saturated with these types of cars nowadays. 335hp on a full sized suv is SLOW. 0-60 in 6 seconds is SLOW. Those numbers should be standard. Looks like you’re paying a premium for a decent looking exterior that looks fast. For American performance suvs Jeep and Durango are it. Nothing American competes with them yet.

  • Got my wife a white one…. pretty descent, good gas mileage and lots of additions but tires for 21in rims are kinda spendy wherever you go and also we live in North Dakota so left it out one night and it rained before it snowed, could only go around the block cause water got underneath the sunroof and then froze…. it sounded horrible like it was gonna shatter at any second Once and awhile you have to clean around it. Got a cold air intake for it and this thing sounds very impressive!

  • If you’re going to try to compete with the SRT line up of Grand Cherokee jeeps. 1. 5.0L AWD supercharged V8. 2. Agressive sound functional dual exhaust. 3. Make the interior a bit better and exclusive for the performance line up. Just a thought…. Its cool I guess but who is your primary market??? No mustang or raptor owner would want this, and the ST brand is know by the tuner class as a manual badass racer. Maybe I’m wrong but I dont think a lot of people will go for this.

  • 2 more practical ford vehicles you can buy for 50-55k: Fully loaded Explorer Sport, and F-150 lariat. Both have higher power output with more room. I like the Edge ST, but it should be priced about the same as the Sport trim it is replacing which is only 15hp less. Used Value will surely go down after a couple of years so I’d wait until then to buy one.

  • This SUV craze is absolutely disgusting. How could you put the ST badge on this garbage. It’s like if they put the damn SI badge on a CRV or pilot. It doesn’t deserve it. Rest in peace Focus and Fiesta ST. You will be missed. Hopefully this thing crashes and burns. Knowing this generation though they will buy into this overpriced crap.

  • 20 Horsepower and 30 LB Ft of torque was what you got with a cold air intake on a V8. With a 3500 lb towing capacity compared to a Grand Cherokee V6 6200 and V8 7200 I don’t think I would have drawn a comparison with those vehicles. I wouldn’t call a 2.7 liter V6 a truck engine either. Ford does use it in trucks but I’m not alone in saying that they aren’t going to sell a V6 truck to a large group of their customer base that realizes that a 2.7 liter with forced induction just isn’t going to last or be as easy to maintain for the long haul as a naturally aspirated V8. A V6 also has a terrible exhaust note in most cases unless it’s an odd fire. Ford says that they swapped to the V6 to achieve better fuel mileage but in the test they’re only getting 21 mpg combined. There are a lot of full size trucks with a v8 (10,000 towing capacity) that are getting 19 combined as we speak, with these twin turbo engines you’re looking at a 770.00 dollars for an aftermarket rebuilt turbo. If we’re to talk about why there is a white space in this segment it might be because european style cars aren’t that popular in the states. This vehicle is built on a light duty car type chassis with a transverse engine instead of a longitudinal aligned engine, that means the shop hours to do maintenance on it will be higher and especially annoying if you do your own maintenance.

  • “Stay bar”? “Vented rotors?” What is this guy talking about? I had a big solid anti-sway bar and vented rotors on a passenger car from the 70’s. Is this Gonzo journalism? Did that guy find that ST coat in a closet somewhere, and just show up at this event? Based on a few of the odd cuts in this vid it looked like the TFLC team was trying to save him from himself.

  • I think it looks decent but wow how cheap are those buttons! cheap cheap cheap complete dash layout. Funny how Ford didn’t like Ram’s dial transmission knob at first but now they are using it in a lot of their new vehicles..even their high end SUV models and flagship cars. Anyway, I like the look of this but the quality still says Ford is the Walmart of vehicles.

  • Not while there’s still Chrysler 300 and chargers. Because of the slope of the rear hatch, you can’t get as much in the rear as you can in a trunk of a 300. The edge drives like a front wheel drive suv. Not fun and not powerful. The dash goes forever, you sit way farther back then you think. Which leads to less room inside. It’s not comfortable, terrible on long trips. Buy a 300 and you’ll love to drive again. Buy a crossover and think of reasons not to go anywhere in it .

  • This is around $55k but the Audi sq5 starts at $55k. Obviously fully loaded the Audi will cost a lot more but you could just buy a one year old Audi with a better interior, better features, better performance and with Audi’s depreciation it would probably be cheaper. Get a warranty for it and I can’t ever see a reason to buy this thing.

  • This will come back and bite Ford in the butt. No brand name advancement in this car. No one is excited. Enthusiasts will not buy this car. Only people who want the top trim model not knowing what the ST badge signifies. If they where to keep the focus st and rs, this car would make sense. I guess that Ford doesn’t want anyone to have a vehicle that can actually handle well in the corners anymore. This car and the direction it is putting ford in is just sad.

  • Comparing it to a Durango or a Grand Cherokee is like comparing a Honda against a Audi it’s in the same size crossover as equinox the new blazer and Kia Sorento or a smaller Cherokee just a another pavement princess to replace all the smaller nimble hatches I like it but can’t compare to a grand Cherokee.

  • This should not be called an ST who ever signed off on this should have been fired the brakes are terrible only matched be the equally terrible eight speed transmission the body roll in this thing would make you think your in a Canoe if your dumb enough to buy one of these like I did upgrade the brakes and get lowering springs the fact that there is very little after market parts for this thing says it all should have waited until they worked out all the issues on the explorer ST avoid one of these at all cost if you want a performance vehicle look at something else, as for the noise cancelation due to the lack of chassis stiffening you will have to turn up the radio so you don’t hear the body creaks one good thing is it handles great in the snow thats about the only good thing I can say about it .

  • Just got a fully loaded used 2019 BMW X3 M40i with only 5,080 miles on it for only $48K. It absolutely destroys a similarly priced brand new 2019 Ford Edge ST. I know because I test drove both back-to-back. The M40i is way faster, has much better brakes, handles better, and has a far superior build quality. It’s not even close.

  • I always wonder at those towing ratings! For instance, why is it that this Edge with that ;whoop-de-do’ 2.7 engine/ 8 speed can only tow 3500 lbs. and my 2017 Escape with the 2.0 turbo,/ 6 speed is also rated at 3500 lbs.? My Escape handles my Mission Trailer with my CanAm 500 Outlander Max EXT with apparent effortless ease on both hi-way and bi-way, I’m well pleased with that. So tell me Ford, why do I need this Edge ST ?

  • HELL FUCKNG NO. I have a 2016 Edge Sport and nothing but quality issues and problems with constant rattles etc. Front camera works sometimes, Bluetooth is complete shit and drops out with multiple phones or just does not work while streaming music. Adaptive steering freaks out (needed to be replaced) Door panels and panels in general are not aligned at all. An almost 50k Crossover that has the quality of a 15k used 7 year old van. First and last Ford, Never ever ever again will I ever buy another Ford.

  • I expected more! I’m glad I didn’t wait for this, not much difference than my 2016 Edge Sport. Yes, the Edge is over priced, but I saved about $17,000 by buying a fully loaded new 2016 a year later. I absolutely love it, minus some minor techy quirks that rarely occur, like the treaded wrench symbol that indicates your turbos have been shut down. Just like any other computer on wheels these days, you must pull over, turn the car off, then on again (reboot). Mine also has a very good software tune that provides 400hp and 500 ft lbs with 91 octane, so even faster than the ST, not to mention I can achieve 35mpg, if keeping it at 100kph. The ST is a bit of a disappointment, especially with the rotary dial for the transmission, just wait for the recalls!! This thing should have had at least 400hp to bear the ST badge, alas, just more smoke and mirrors.

  • When are these manufacturers going to realize they are pricing themselves out of business? Show me where this thing is worth 10k more than the sport. It’s only 20hp different which could have been done with a tune which probably didn’t cost them anything. It’s not any lighter so they can’t say they used more expensive materials. The interior is pretty much identical, so where is the 10k extra coming from? Actually the Explorer Sport runs the same 0-60 has more HP, has a third row and is about 3k less so what the hell is Ford thinking? Not to mention they should have never changed from the last body style because this body style looks more like a Hyundai.
