Seriously I think your the only one that talked about the fact you can set options in the infotainment to whatever icon you want so that it really just becomes one touch away. Fixing the fact that it’s a one to one pad and not a touchscreen. Most reviewers just complain about how they can’t learn how to use it, cause its not a mouse pad and gloss over that details. Keep up the great reviews.
This format is really working. Many websites dedicate this same runtime to review the entire car while you focused only on the interior. Great! The only omissions, IMO, were the standard sized roof (many competitors have pano) and the lack of USB ports in the back seat. This review goes a long way to show just how lazy the IS refresh was.
Great review! I agree with you on everything you mentioned about the interior, the ride, handling, stereo, etc!! I ended up buying this TLX Advance with the exact same trim and color on 5/22/21 and just love it!! You two convinced me and so glad I went for it!! Love the different driving modes…Sport mode is a blast and this motor really has plenty of power!!! We are going for the MDX next, as soon as we can find one. The chip shortage is making that a chore! I had a 5-Series in the same color config and it was a great car but this one is better for a lot of reasons. Reliability being at the top of that list. The BMW left me stranded 3 times, which is 3 times more than my Honda’s and Acura’s combined over the past 25 yrs!!

If you think about it, most luxury brands use wood only as accents and it makes them look cheap, which is the opposite of what they’re trying to do.
A 50k sedan with no back seat and a 4 banger (although it’s a good one) I checked one out and found it cramped inside especially the rear seats.If your legs are long and have the front seat back the rear seat is probably good for a small child. The Accord Touring 2.0 is a better value and has a huge back seat
As a long term Acura customer, I think you’re missing the point. I currently own a 2023 Acura TLX Types S and a 2024 Acura MDX Type S . The reason I went with the Acura is the balance of performance and long term reliability. I have owned as a S4, Porsches as well. Tough to beat and for the price a good value. Also keep in mind, Acura backs their warranties unlike a lot other competitors like Audi or BMW. If this just about leasing a vehicle the German cars are provide more adrenaline, but owning them is a different story.
Toyota just did the out of your comfort zone thing and ended up with a bunch of recalls for their turbo charges. I just bought a 2014 Acura RDX for $19,000 with 50,000 miles on it. I bought it because it didn’t have all the glitzy upgrades that are going to cause it to be less reliable. People can buy BMW or Land Rover and deal with expensive repair bills. I want reliability.
I own a 2012 Acura TSX wagon with the K24z3 motor……one of Honda’s best 4 cylinder engines ever, IMHO. Build quality of this Honda is excellent, and with 85K on the clock, it is a silky smooth daily driver. My first Honda was a 1983 Prelude, which was fun and solid. It’s hard to make a broad brush assertion about Acuras and Hondas because so much depends on how they were driven and maintained.
Long time Honda lover here. I bought nothing but Hondas and Acura. In recent years, Honda started making cars from plants in the States. I started seeing problems and issues that i had never seen before from Honda and Acura. My 2014 Acura was a vehicle with so many issues from day 1. People buy Lexus or Toyota. Don’t be me.

The irony of the Automotive Industry is that the most styled cars like Range Rover, Mercedes, Lincoln Aviator, BMW, KIA and Hyundai turns out not to be the most reliable while the conservatively styled cars like Acura, Honda, Toyota and Lexus are the most reliable. I will go with conservative and drive in peace instead of sharp styling and spend time at the dealer’s office for repairs. Besides, I’m unsure of your definition of “cheap” but I just checked Autotrader and the top of the line Acura MDX is anything but cheap. It’s priced like the new and used Lexus RX 350.
I bought my 2022 MDX Tech in June 2021. It now has 22,000 miles and there have been no issues, no repairs, minimal maintenance. As you know, there was a major change to this vehicle starting with the 2022 model. After driving all the competitively priced SUVs with enough room for easily storing a wheel chair, the MDX was the most comfortable (I am 6’2’ and 220 lbs) for me and my wife, who likes to wear her hair in a pony tail and all the competition,s headrests interfered with her hair, Pushing her head forward. The car is very responsive and accelerates quickly with no lag, handles very well (especially when enjoying a great road) for a 3 row SUV, is quiet and all the electronic gizmos work well. Lane centering and radar cruise control make driving effortless, especially in heavy stop and go traffic. The sound system is also magnificent when set properly. My previous cars were Audi A 6 Avants, each kept for 200,000 miles with few repairs and minimal maintenance and the MDX does not feel like a step down in any category. I prefer it to the Audi Q7 for many reasons. I suggest you drive a New MDX and see if your issues are present in the current models. It could be that as a former race driver my driving and maintenance schedule differ from your experiences. I do agree that the infotainment is awkward but for those of us with shoulder problems it eliminates the long reach to some touch screens. Each to his own, but I can’t really trust your reviews any more.
None of the new Acuras are below what they are actually worth, There’s to high of a Mark up on new and used car. The Dealers are still trying to make up what income they loss during the US lockdown. Keep what you have, fix what you have! To lose 7/8k the moment you sign on the dotted line. The vehicle you just purchased is in the Red,.
I’ve had Jeep, Volkswagen, Nissan and two Acuras. By far the Acuras have been the most reliable and fun to drive. I know brands like BMW, Land Rover and Mercedes are faster and or more luxurious but aren’t very reliable especially Land Rover. Here’s the thing while everyone is busy looking at the Mercedes and BMWs I get a good deal on an Acura with the reliability of Honda 😉 I bought mine right before the car market skyrocketed and all the prices were super low during covid so I got a good deal.
I have never been burned on a Honda/Acura product. Back in 2018 was hit by another driver. I was given $25K by my insurance for my 4 year old Accord that had 60K miles on it. I had only paid $31K new. I recently traded in a 2020 Acura RDX that I paid $45K for new, and I got $30K on trade in (40K miles). I have a couple of other examples also, and have never had any mechanical issues. I disagree with him on the MDX, I think it’s a good looking car. It just seems like he’s biased.
I see more Acura’s on the roads than most other vehicles. I own one myself and would gladly buy another in a heartbeat. I’ve owed about 3 so far. They have fantastic safety features and they don’t overdue anything in terms of style and performance. It’s a fun car to drive. The best way to describe them is that they’re a practical luxury car for everyday use.
The one bone head move Acura has made is not offering a touch screen. That will be changing in 25, but to think they missed the boat with their current RDX, TLX, and MDX is a real head -scratcher. Having said that, We had a 2014 MDX for 6 troubled free years. We had a 2019 RDX with 55K for 4.5 troubled free years. I am now driving a 2021 Honda Passport and the same. All I can say is they are reliable and cheap to maintain. The 3.5 V6 is great and the Seats are among the most comfortable of any car. Indeed, not a lot of panache with either brand, but they are just as loaded with features and tech as the luxury brands. My recommendation is always to buy a two year old vehicle with super low miles and under warranty. And as long as you stay with a Honda, Toyota, or any of their subbrands, you will always be OK
I seriously doubt many people would shop an Acura against a Mercedes or a BMW; those who seek Acuras do so mainly for Honda’s reliability. Granted, it’s not what it used to be based on recent surveys, but it’s still better than the Germans. If I was in the market for an Acura, I would shop it against a Lexus, or maybe certain Hondas, Toyotas or Mazdas, but never a German brand (even less so a Volvo or a Range Rover!) In fact, I’d sooner consider a Genesis/Hyundai/Kia before any European brand.
It’s amazing how automatic transmissions have been around for decades but many people do not know how to take care of said auto tranny by simply using the e-brake when they park. About to hit 400,000 miles on the original tranny of my 06 TL by simply doing this along a/ fluid changes. People say manuals are more reliable than autos but seeing my vehicle at 400k and how clutches generally go out by 200k made me reevaluate this belief as I gotta say auto can be just as reliable as manual if one regularly uses their e-brake w/ fluid changes.
Please people, save yourself a lot of aggravation and stay away from Land Rover, Jaguar, and anything German, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, even VW…. Look around, when was the last time you say one of those mentioned cars on the road, that are more than 5 years old… 10 years old? Its impossible to find a BMW or Mercedes that is 7 years old… on the road and driving under its own power. Want to turn $100,000 into $5,000.. Buy a BMW or Mercedes and wait 4 years. NEVER own one of these cars outside of a FULL FACTORY WARRANTY… NEVER, and have a Honda to drive when the Beamer is in the shop… AGAIN.
Never understood people who want hybrid on a large luxury car. How much are you going to save on gas? And how much are you going to spend on price premium and repairs and all that time in repairs? Reported hybrid MPG 45-50 mpg in total BS when you drive on a highway, no gas savings whatsoever on a highway.
I hear what he is saying. I have owned three MDXs and one TL. Furthermore, I currently own the 2022 MDX Specs, and they could do better. The interior is too cheap plastic; they want to make it a luxury SUV, but it is not. The new MDXs ride nice, are very stable, and have a great sound system, but I honestly agree with this guy. The keeping assist on my wife’s MDX is one of the best in the game. I had a 2021 Audi Q7, and the MDX keeps you right in the middle of the lanes, Audi was bouncing from side to side.
I’m starting to rethink my decision. I replaced my 2016 MDX Tech with 2019 MDX tech. I upgraded bc I didn’t like the hunting of the gears that 2016 has….. 2019 has been problems.. auto stop/start and Rodbearing replaced covered under warranty.. then when I changed my batt. The mitigation system is shot.. add gas check engine after I put gas in emissions 😡😡🙂↔️Noo bueno!! for Acura to check $119 quality issues….Thanks for Sharing 🙌🏾
I had an Acura MDX once it went over 100k miles I had nothing but trouble with it. Oil consumption issues the service department would do nothing for me. They told me their industry standard was .8 of a quart of oil consumed per 1000 miles. The rings were trashed. I was told a new engine or piston rings. Piston rings was $6000 a new engine was $13000 so I just got rid of it.
Acura’s resale value are higher than a lot of other brands. I agree with you the panel gaps and some of their transmissions. I have a 2018 MDX with the infamous 9 speed and overall I don’t like it at all but the tech told me he hasn’t seen any major issues with them so I will see once I hit 100k soon how everything still feels and drives. I also hear a rattling on the driver’s side door too and I wonder where that could be coming from. Based on my experience, I’d say Lexus is better for sure but not by a landslide.
I think you missed how bad Honda/Acura have been with parts for after sale service. Specifically collision parts lots of acuras ait for a long time due to part availability issues. Acura corp and honda act like they don’t care. If you have an accident in one of these consider the total repair time qill be longer on average than other luxury brands. Also acura is barely a luxury brand to me, look at a lexus interior vs Acura and its no competition lexus and so many other companies put money and effort into the interior.
While I was stopped at a traffic light, this guy knocked on my window and said “Everything will be alright” and left. Confused, I showed the DashCam article to my neighbor and he liked it. He rented a big projector and show the article to the entire town. Everybody clapped with joy and happiness. A big BBQ party followed soon after and three couples got marry.
Well, locally they sell cheap due to the Windshield shattering, even the Honda CR-V, my bro owns 1 since new and has experienced both front and rear Windshield shattering 3 times each, and only the first time they repaired it for free. Also it does not help the Dealer Mechanics, slow and grumpy, plus expensive as hell. Now the seller’s are great at selling and promises, but after you bite, good luck. Only the small Civic’s are devoid of notable problems.
Think the Acuras look better than most. Most people are swayed by flashy gimmicks, where Acura has better reliability and easier to maintain than the others. But this is a quality that most people don’t understand or find out until after the vehicle is purchased. My Acura is 20 years old and runs like new. Where as its competition died off in the junk yard 5-7 years ago. Engine oil lab tests show my Acura has minimal wear with tons of life left. If you like blowing money on repairs buy a BMW. If you like having money and want some style buy an Acura.
2007-2009 MDX beat Mercedes, Land Rover, X5, VW, Lexus and other luxury brand models from 2007 in performance, according to CarandDriver. I drive a 2007 MDX and the performance is similar to a 2016 328i I used to drive, except the MDX has more power. You can get one for the same price as used BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Lexus. My MDX has over 220k miles and she drives and handles like new. They are engineered well and are very reliable. Still want to add a 2007 Lexus 460 to my collection. They seem fun and powerful

I just bought my 3rd Acura, a 2011 Acura MDX to replace my 2006 RL, which was wrecked, and I still have my 99 3.2TL, which needs a new engine. Yes, they have their issues and he has some good points, but I LOVE mine. I was actually in the market for a Lexus LS, but saw that SUV and fell in love…NO regrets.
I’ve always loved Acura’s – since the early days. That being said, I’ve never owned one, just had friends who had and loved them. The one thing I’m wondering and that’s about CV transmissions. Does anyone make one that’s not going to fail just after 100k? Everything I’m seeing and reading say CV’s are the ‘hidden disaster’ that few consider.
I just bought a 24 tlx aspec and I love the looks and performance. Friends family, and coworker’s say, ‘wow, that is a fancy and aggressively styled car. Beautiful!’ lots of head turns too. So given that feedback, I’d disagree with your assessment of the tlx styling being old school. I looked at the Lexus IS350 but sadly, Lexus is typecast as an old person brand. I just couldn’t get over that let alone the extremely dated tech.
Back in 2003 i bought a brand-new TL based solely on reputation. It left me stranded with a blown transmission with just a few miles on the odometer. So after getting getting it fixed under warranty i traded it for a used Audi A6. That thing wasn’t that reliable either, but it never left me stranded, and my commute was 80 miles/day at that time. It was also a lot more upscale in design and amenities. I looked at ’23 TLX and even the gear shifter looked odd and flimsy.
Bought a 2018 RDX, last model year in the previous gen… you’d think they have the kinks worked out by the last model year… yeah no! They just sent around a “extend your warranty for 3 years” letter to the 2017 and 2018 model years for a transmission related problem about some part not sized correctly in the transmission that could lead to failure. Any recall from Honda… nope! Honda Canada needs to do better! My immediate family has had 5 Honda/acura products. 1. 1999 – 4 cyl Accord LX (base model) ran like a beast. 2. 2002 6 cyl Accord EX (top model at the time, exact same gen as the 1999). Major transmission problem design flaw. Recall? Nope… buy the highest end Accord of that gen and there’s a massive design failure in that transmission. Honda wanted $6k CAD to fix the transmission… that would have the exact same problem eventually. No help from Honda Canada. 3. 2002 Honda Civic Si, manual trans, not bad, head gasket blew at 150k. Weak D series engine, and Si that wasn’t really an Si, if you know what I mean. 4. 2014 Honda Accord 4 cyl, engine burns oil at 100k km, some engines in this gen were recalled for the oil burning. That year’s model is not under the Canadian recall. Total trash. Honda Canada is trash. 5. The Acura RDX, noted letter above about transmission design failure again. Won’t recall and fix, will only fix the car if the problem light comes on. Problem is we don’t put that many km’s on the car so we’ll be way under the km limit by the time the 3 year extended warranty expires.
the idea something is cheap can vary, depending on who you go through. but i have a slightly different take, i disagree there cheap because they’re not exciting, or that they lack innovation. Acura vehicles to me depreciate in value, because somebody thought hmm, this Mercedes should cost more, i think this guy would rather have this BMW, or this Lexus. i think it has to do with brand name, than innovation, or doing this or doing that. shoppers today aren’t necessarily looking for excitement, they just want something reliable that works. Acura is just one of those names, that people don’t often think of when it comes to buying a car. but i wouldn’t say they’re cheap, it just depends on where you got it. Acura holds their value pretty well, but Acura like Honda are also viewed a certain way. they definitely have this boy racer vibe, everybody knows BMW’s are sporty, but they are also recognized as a premium luxury brand. so when people buy their products, they won’t have to feel embarrassed driving it. the Acura ILX, like the TSX before it, people mainly saw it as a fancier Civic, and that’s not what people look for when shopping for a premium car. so that’s my thoughts on it, but before i go, i would say Infiniti is in a even worse place, in terms of cheap. but that’s partly due to Nissan, never figuring out what they wanna be, and part of that is because, they always played catchup to the two premier Japanese giants, Toyota and Honda.
Personally my neighbor has an MDX and I think it’s beautiful. I’m conservative and I’m looking for another car maybe a 2020 Acura MDX. I actually think they’re good-looking because some of the new cars just look like weird especially the new Camrys and the 2025 is front end is just horrendous looking
Interesting take man. I live on the South Shore of Boston in an zone that encompasses a 1,500 square mile area that has NO Acura dealerships, from Quincy to Taunton to the tip of Cape Cod. It’s a very developed and fairly wealthy area. My town of Hanover has plenty dealerships: Toyota, Subaru, Range Rover, Mercedes, GMC/Buick, Ford, Honda. One to two towns away in either direction you’ll find Lexus, BMW/Mini, Volvo, Acura/Porsche, Lamborghini/Aston/other exotics, Jeep/Ram/Dodge, Chevrolet and plenty of used resellers with premium brands. Acura? Crickets! I’d have to drive almost an hour to get to one. It’s been the reason Acura has been off our family’s shopping list for the nearly 3 decades we’ve lived here. I’ve never understood that.
Great article 👍 That Prelude that you showed in this article were disastrous models. Every other Prelude had a replacement engine within 5 years. That CRV that you showed in this article by far the best CRV generation. After 2003, the CRV became poorly built vehicle with burning oil issues and recently with disastrous Turbo engines. By far Lexus models are much more solidly built over any Acura. The only Acura that would consider buying is that from the 90s and early 2000s like that 2006 RSX. I am shocked Acura still around as a brand. Infiniti and Acura should be discontinued as a brand in order to save the parent company Nissan and Honda. Maybe Honda and Nissan should merge together to survive.
Just acquired a 2024 RDX. Still have a 2018 RDX. Bought the 2018 during the initial phase of the COVID epidemic, there was no one in the dealership that didn’t need to be there, so got a fantastic deal. The 2018 subsequently increased value as the chip shortage affected the car industry. Now with 55,000 more miles on it than when purchased, not to mention several years, its value has only decreased by about $8000. The 2018, V6. The 2024, Turbo 4 cylinder. Bummer. As for technology/innovation, I’ll take less, thank you. 2024, no transmission dip stick and the owner isn’t supposed to do a transmission fluid change according to the manual. Dealership only. Push button transmission. Bummer. Entertainment center with mouse pad? Are you kidding me! Electronic power steering? What is that going to cost to fix? Push button emergency brake. Really? No connection between the gas pedal and the throttle-body. That gives me a lot of confidence (lol)! Direct injection. That sucks. The heck with innovation. I want fluids that I can change. Mechanical connections that I can trust. Parts that I can replace. I want a reliable car and don’t want a turbocharge 4 that gets essentially the same gas mileage as my 6. Give me the V6 please! Sadly my 2018 is going to my daughter in college and I’m left with the 2024. Still, the 2024 is a beautiful/flashy red car and is fun to drive. More luxurious. My dog loves it! The 2018 drives like a sports car. The 2024 drive a bit more like a luxury car and that’s okay with me.
Acura’s quality and reliability is crap. Everyone I know who owned one had major problems with their car. Acura’s from the 1980’s and 1990’s were probably the two best decades, but starting from the 2000s, Acura quality and reliability took a complete nosedive down! People buy Acuras because they’re made by Honda, but the quality and reliability of their cars are much worse than Hondas.
I don’t think he gets it. People that buy an Acura do so because there is performance and value there. He may call the styling boring but Acura owners call it elegant. When was reliability a bad thing? Lower repair bills is a plus I think! I love my 2008 MDX Technology and I may never get rid of it !
But, really?! You think those oversized grills that are being offered on brands like BMW are attractive?! They aren’t. They are absolutely hideous! The current signature grill that Lexus that is shaped like a squashed hour glass is an instant no sale with me. It also reminds me of a vacuum cleaner. They are aggressively ugly. The Acuras may look subdued in comparison but at least they’re no longer ugly! If Lexus were to place a horizontal crossbar at the narrowest points of the grill, they’d have a what’s called a Toyota Camry! And Camry grills look much better Lexus’. Volkswagen grills look better than than those ugly Audi grills. All of the brands I’ve mentioned here used to be some of my favorites when I was kid in the 70’s. When Lexus 1st premiered, in the late 80’s they were gorgeous. Now, they’re just ugly.
Awful reasoning. He’s talking about issues with transmissions that were several years ago. He attacks Acura for not going out on a limb with their technology and engines and then trashed the 1.5 turbo….that’s why they want to keep things as tried and true. The better value in my opinion are used Lexus models. Mercedes, BMW, infinity….no thanks.
Got rid of all my vehicles. Has anyone noticed you can get everything delivered and have it the next day. Saving a ton of money. When I do go out for appointments,etc. I use an uber or friend. Saving a ton of money. Meanwhile I see many of my neighbors with 2 drivers in the household have 4 and 5 cars. I can imagine the expense of upkeep even if they are paid off. At least get rid of the cars you rarely drive; they are worth more now than in the future. Think about it!
Personally, I love my Honda Accord 2.4l 5sp manual. But todays Hondas has lost their way when they dropped the best engine they ever made the K series. And they don’t make anything but an R model with a manual trans and I wont buy a Honda without a manual. The only car I would buy with an auto trans is a Toyota. But a Honda with a manual is the best balance for fun, reliability at a bargain price. Why Honda dropped an engine dubbed “Honda’s LS” is just next level dumb!
Hmmm Not sure why reliability is on the list. Acura is #5 car brand according to Consumer Reports. Although, they are not always 100 percent correct, they are a good gauge. Acura will be on my list of brands to look at when I replace my current car. The TLX needs to ditch the current infotainment system in favor of the touch screen that is on the Integra. That infotainment system is a big reason I would pass on the current TLX.
Looks are completely subjective. My father has an Acura and I’m a German car fan boy (f82 and s550). I personally think Acuras make some of the most beautiful cars currently on the market. The SUVs look better than most BMWs new designs as well. I especially love the new MDX type s. I’m in the market for a performance SUV (looking at x5, x3 m40/m, SQ5, and mdx type s). Audis look the most boring and while the MDX is the best looking, Acuras are neither performance nor efficiency-oriented. The mdx type s is even lethargic compared to an x5 with the b58. For 75k msrp, I’d expect more performance.
Interesting article not sure Autotrader agrees. My MDX still retains 3 years on the certified warranty and is pulling $30K-$35K all day, I paid $41K for it 4 years ago. The Telluride holds a resale of $30K or so until it hits 50K miles then begins to drastically drop in value, way down into the $17K range, probably due to the fires, etc. The MDX with no wrecks, clean title keeps its value way into the 80k+. I believe Hyundai and Kia SUVs would be the more accurate article.
I feel like Acura reliability and build quality went down compared to before. I had a 21 TLX A-Spec and 23 TLX Type S. I had the rotor wrapping issues, sound system and A/C issues within the 2-3 years I owned the cars. Drove about 30k km. Luckily the sound system and A/C issues were covered by warranty but to see them break down that quickly scared me off long term ownership.
They are cheaper? I just had to get rid of my 2013 MDX, unfortunately it was experiencing engine problems and we’d gotten it fixed once before but the issue returned. We looked at newer used MDX’s but they were all almost as expensive as a brand new one. Hubby ended up getting me a 2024 RAV4 for less than a used MDX 🙁
Wow this was alarming. I was going to trade my RDX for a anew MDX. I had no problem with the RDX. I think most Acura owners came from Honda which was known for performance and reliability. An Acura is more fun to drive than a Lexus. Lexus is for soccer mom I personally wouldn’t buy a junk BMW. MB, or Volvo, or Infinity regardless of how they looked.
I am going to give you the engagement you are looking for with these click bait title’s and your opinion on Acura’s being cheap. I work for an Acura dealership for over the last 5 years and have known the product for over a good 20 years and what I have learned is that Acura’s just like Honda hold their value very well, over alot of Mercedes and BMW’s and Audi, you could not trade any of those vehicles with over 100,000 miles and feel confident that you were going to get any good money back for it, I have seen it thousands of times. Acura has come a long way over the last 4 to 5 years starting with the refresh on the RDX, the technology has also gotten better and it is affordable luxury which you get alot included for your money compared to these other luxury brands, and Acura does have an electric vehicle the ZDX. We also have a service department at our dealership and what you are saying about all these engine problems about Integra and MDX and transmission are false, and all vehicle makes always have some bad apples that could be anything that happened along the line of the vehicle being constructed, says alot when you say “I heard from someone” hopefully that one person didnt do all your research for you.
Acura Dares to be diff …i can agree wit the Panel Gaps …i came from Audi to Acura and notice the difference in the detail of the Lines and them bein different in on certain areas if you look closely…so the care of detail may seem a bit Rushed in that matter for Acura … overall running it is a bit more peaceful compare to Audi from my experience…sure Audi will always be the stronger more Aesthetic Ride with more performance…but overall cost of ownership will come woth that …but then again no car is truly built to last if one is not maintaining it as much as can properly .
owned a 2003 TL (bought new) drove it for 8 years and my son for another 5 years. put over 100k miles on it. my son tracked it years later by VIN and it was still driving around. fast forward my son bought a 2019 TLX (reminds him of the TL I gave him) and loves it (so do I). there is a major recall on it now but it hasn’t given him any issues – just waiting for replacement parts. i have an RDX…module went in the first 6 months but replaced and no problems some years later. only thing I really dislike is the touch pad interface. otherwise love the vehicle and for a stock stereo…one of the best I have ever experienced. i think the article is a bit overly and unnecessarily critical but I appreciate the work and presentation. i would consider buying a Honda CRV Sport if they can change the vertical lights on the rear or Cadillac XT4 if they do the same. my buddy got a 2024 XT4 and the 33 inch screen is the best looking to date and so easy to use.
If brand new, Acura is an alternative to Lexus and other premium brands for cheaper price. If used, Acura’s image and its brand name are not strong enough to attract people due to lack of strong heritage. MB, BMW and Lexus are the most popular and hottest choices and hence nobody does consider Acura in the used car market.
There’s nothing wrong with Acura it’s just bland it’s Reliable yes has it’s boring style but lacks creativity and innovation when brands like BMW and Toyota push it to the limit they can create results and Acura is sticking to it’s old roots it’s never enough it must evolve and change the way it does things if it’s to have any chance of successfully making it in this industry ❤
I bought three Acura TL’s and enjoyed every one of them, the best one was a 2009 TL SHAWD drove it to well over 200,000 miles, but the repair bill was more than the car was worth, so I had to settle for a Toyota for the last two years, just waiting for the prices of used cars to fall, but I have my eyes on a 2008 RL with 130,000 miles and it was a one owner, hoping the price will fall around June and July.

Google : Toyota the beginning of Lexus and 3.5 liter and 3.4 liter engines that took over the auto market. Remember when Camry sold themselves and the trucks with these engines are top rated. Only reason Acura might be selling less is the competition of the Highlander and Rav4 and Tacomas are proven high milage vehicles although costly $$$. Different strokes for different folks!! You hit it!! The auto industry loves the “death spiral”. They allow a percentage of car sales for advertising. the more a car sells the more it is advertised. The stepsister sells low and gets low advertising. You can see where this is going!! Then …. they are so shocked that cars dont sell as they should .LOL!! A brilliant strategy would be to reverse it every other year to keep sales even.
There is nothing boaring about the acura period it cost u your son tuition when doing manetance in the mercedes, bmw and they are not even close in reliabilty . Stop it . And remeber honda has inovatived the industry the best made 4 cyclendar ever. Sales is not accurate statement toyota sales more cars but they fleet there cars that honda doesnt so a little misleading
Every criticism of Acura applies to Honda. Same engines, transmission and suspension. Their transmissions have been problematic for 20 years. Overall Honda quality and reliability has dropped, while other brands like Hyundai have improved. I’ve gone from a Honda only to never Honda in the past 5 years. And with the latest V6 problems at Toyota, even they look problematic. Everyone is cutting too many corners.
I owned a 90 Legend a quite a few years back purchased a 2019 RDX A Spec. In the 90 Acura was a luxury car and they treated you like that, now they are just an over priced Honda. There Quality is not on par with Lexus. Heck it’s not even on par with the 90’s Acura. There Corporation treatment to the customer is piss poor also. I wanted to love my RDX but Corp and Dealership made my opinion I would never buy a Acura again. This is from a real customer not some BS review. Sadly enough they are not precision crafted performance the are Precision craft junk now.Every time you see a RDX ad you see them driving it like it was a NSX now lets face it no one in there right mind drive a SUV like a NSX.
Why is he so very wrong? He missed the whole point of Acura and its reliability, comfort, driving/ handling, good looks and reasonable price. Try keeping a BMW, Mercedes or Audi after the warranty expires and you’re stuck with the maintenance and repair bills. So he doesn’t like their marketing? Product over marketing every time.
