The Layout Of A Long, Narrow Bedroom?

Narrow bedroom design ideas can be a challenge, but with the right ideas, you can transform this space into a stylish and functional retreat. One way to make the most of a narrow bedroom is by optimizing under-the-bed storage space, using a Murphy Bed instead of a Murphy Bed, and using mirrors or three to create the illusion of a larger space.

Creating specific areas in a narrow but long room, such as the main seating area, can help create a more cohesive space. Decorative objects like patterned, neutral, or colorful rug can also add a unique touch to the room.

To create a minimalist, Scandinavian style, divide the room into sections, optimize bed placement, and use vertical and horizontal space. A patterned, neutral rug can complement the colorful blue rug, while a centered desk under the window can create a distinct pattern.

Incorporating decorative objects like mirrors and hanging curtains can also enhance the overall look of the narrow bedroom. By incorporating these ideas, you can create a cozy and functional space that is both functional and visually appealing.

In summary, narrow bedroom design ideas can be a rewarding experience for those looking to maximize their space without committing to a major project. By focusing on optimizing storage, using mirrors, and incorporating vertical and horizontal space, you can create a comfortable and functional space that is both functional and inviting.

Which direction should flooring be in a long narrow room?

To enhance the appearance of a room, consider the following tips:

  1. Lay the flooring boards horizontally to create a wider surface and avoid a boxed-in effect. Avoid using dark colors for the floor and walls to make the room appear narrower.

  2. Install the floor vertically to create a sense of depth in a short room. Combining a light-colored floor with darker walls can add depth to the room.

  3. Opt for diagonal flooring to create a big, visually appealing room with minimal effort or materials costs. Laying the flooring at a 45-degree angle can make the room visually appealing and visually tie a wall to one in another room, creating a unifying effect.

How to make a narrow room look wider with flooring?

The right type of flooring can make a room look bigger by expanding the perceived size of the space and opening it up. Light and dark flooring, such as cream carpets, natural and neutral-toned tiles, and whitewashed wood flooring, can complement furniture and create an open and airy feel. One flooring for all rooms can also help create a larger space. Parallel or diagonal flooring can also be used to create a more spacious look. Planks over strips can also be used to create a more spacious look.

Large tiles can also be used to create a more spacious feel. By making the most of your flooring, you can shift the focus from the size of the room to its appeal and function. Overall, the right flooring can make a room feel larger and more spacious.

Where to put TV in a long bedroom?

To maximize the presence of a TV in a bedroom, consider various options such as placing it above the fireplace mantel, using a drop-down TV from the ceiling, hiding it behind closet doors, investing in a bed with a built-in TV, using a modular media unit, or opting for discreet built-in shelving. While incorporating a TV into your bedroom ideas is essential for late-night movie sessions, it must also act as a calming space to aid sleep. Many people prefer to conceal the TV when not in use or keep its presence discreet.

Alternatively, a bedroom TV can be an integral part of modern wall decor, allowing the room to showcase its best features. Ultimately, the balance between minimizing the TV’s presence and showcasing its features is crucial.

How do you lay a long narrow room?

Long living room layout ideas include investing in long furniture, creating distinct zones, floating furniture away from walls, playing with color, creating a curved pathway, allowing natural light, and incorporating mirrors to reflect light. Longer furniture visually simplifies a narrow room, reducing clutter and making it appear spacious. Downlights can be used to spread light across the room, while a softer secondary lighting plan can be achieved with bedside lamps, reading lamps, and table lamps. Wall-mounted reading lights can also help declutter bedside surfaces. Positioning the bed horizontally across the width of the space can help increase space.

Positioning the bed against the width of the room can also be beneficial, as it creates a welcoming atmosphere and takes the eye off the room’s shape. Adding pillows can add comfort and warmth to the space. Overall, careful consideration of bedroom lighting is crucial for a comfortable and functional space.

  • Thank you very much for the detailed explanations, and for the tips. I have seen the tip about using round shapes in other articles, but you made the point especially well. And that photo with the large ceiling fixture that has all of the round shapes in it was amazing!! That really showed how repeating the circle can draw the eye and add interest. New sub! 👍🙂 -Cara

  • great tips I have a very challenging living room 12ft8 inches wide and approx 23 feet long.. one the interior side is a breakfast bar 9ft 6 inches and opening 32 inches and other wall 5.7 inches that my piano goes in plus another opening 5ft 11 inches wide. The outside wall has an18 inch wall, followed by a 30 inch door, a 5ft 7 inch wall then a 7 ft 10 inch window and another wall 4 ft 10 inches to the front of a built in bookcase. the fireplace has a 16 inch hearth and is charcoal brick. the walls are real cedar paneling all 4 sides. the Ceiling is a popcorn tray ceiling with 2 ceiling fans. The Carpet is a brown and black shag. The living room opens into the kitchen and I’m trying to figure out the flooring for both. Cabinets are oak I think.. Any help is appreciated. thank you

  • My bedroom is very difficult to work with because I really don’t want to put my bed up against the wall to either long side, and because the ends of each room are a funny shape, cannot put it against either short end wall. So it cuts straight down at the 2/3rds point and a makeup table is by the window at one end. But that leaves a lot of dead space for my dressed and bookshelf in the other ‘zone’ since they’re opposite each other. But if I move those around I cut out my light source from the other window. Very bothersome. 8ft by 17ft is a very undesirable length room 😅😭

  • The problem for our space is that there are no walls along the lengthwise axis. On one side are windows and the other side is a patio door. 🤦‍♀️ It is so frustrating. Then we have one long wall and the other wall broken up into 2 openings – 1 for the kitchen and the other the front hall. In other words, there is nowhere for a focal point.

  • have been scouring youtube for months in hope of finding some kind of sound principles i might apply in laying out the arrangement of furniture in my narrow, rectangular living room. i am astounded to report that you have effected a remarkable change and i am hugely impressed and grateful. your good taste is exceeded only by your”architectural” eye which i think has made all the difference! thank you very, very much. my living room now actually does look like the blessing you said a long, narrow room can be! loud cheers, admiration and appreciation!!! :):):) intend to review all the rest of your clips!

  • I have a living room that is long and narrow, the room as a entryway to the kitchen in the middle of the long wall and right across from it is the wall that’s 68″ away with French doors and the rest of the wall has windows which makes it difficult because the tv goes on one end and the doors are in the middle of the longer walls please help

  • Thank you, your article helped me so much. I have a small but narrow living room, with the long wall being a window wall, with door to the backyard on the left side. I have realized that I need to go with the flow of the room and can have one lounge zone for the tv and one passageway to the door. Thank you so much for saving me ☺️

  • Hello Selen, I like your article. Can you please provide an idea for my sitting room. It’s a narrow and long one . One while wall is window which allows me to see outside beautiful park and other side opposite to the window wall is my open kitchen. I always struggle to put my furniture in and not sure how to section areas within the living room. Pls help:)
