Not only does it protect them better (like vinyl albums), but you can also balance out the weight of a box better so that it’s not heavier on one side. My Nana worked in a Hallmark store and she gave me a tip on how they packed tea/coffee cups in sets of 4. Wrap each one individually, then place the “Ears” (aka handles) one inside of the other – take the first 2, place the ear of one inside the bowl of the other cup, then add the 3rd and the 4th. It will form a cube that you can then wrap together like a package. This way they won’t jostle around during moving/shipping and the ears won’t get broken off because they are protected inside of another cup.
