Wendy’s, a fast-food chain, has announced plans to close over 100 of its locations nationwide in 2024. The chain has already closed 27 locations in Q1 earnings call, but it is not all doom and gloom. Wendy’s plans to open a new location at 3197 Cape Horn Rd., offering free food to 100 customers for a year. The restaurants will feature new pick-up windows, a more technologically advanced kitchen, and a spruced up interior. Wendy’s first redesign will debut in spring.
A rumor in Facebook and Instagram ads claimed that Wendy’s was planning to close all restaurant locations, go out of business, or go bankrupt. However, these claims are false. Some closures were temporary for remodels, and as late as March 2022, Wendy’s was predicting that ghost kitchens and nontraditional units would account for half of its unit growth going forward.
Several local Wendy’s are offering free food for a year to the first 100 customers in line who make a purchase at their newly-remodeled restaurants. This is part of the company’s efforts to address social media rumors that have led some readers to wonder whether Wendy’s is permanently closing all of its restaurants.
Wendy’s on Russ Avenue Waynesville is undergoing a transformation that started last week, and more than 18,000 Ocala utility customers are in danger of forfeiting nearly $7 million in refunds of a fire service fee that was previously paid. Wendy’s on Sandusky St is getting remodeled, which means today is their last day. Doors will not be closed during business operation, and installation for hurricane protection is being installed.
