Interior Vinyl Door Panel Adhesion Techniques?

This video demonstrates how to remove and repair trim panels on car or truck doors using panel/structural adhesive for a long-lasting, invisible repair. High Temp type of glue is recommended, which can be found at upholstery supply shops, parts stores, and Lowe’s. Spray the glue on both fabric and the panel with a good amount and wait for it to get tacky. The video also shows how to apply two part SuperGlue and accelerator to plastic and MBTex vinyl, holding in place with small alligator clips until it sets.

Contact cement is ideal for bonding large surfaces or panels together, such as headliners, door panels, or dashboards. The upper section of the upholstery ships loose, which requires spray adhesive to complete the assembly. A heat gun or hair dryer makes the process easier, as the vinyl needs to be stretched.

Reusing the original punched holes is possible, but drilling new holes and using pop rivets is more efficient. LaPage construction adhesive is 8 times stronger than regular glue and requires a lot of force to dispense with a caulk gun. High Temp type of glue is suitable for high temperatures, and contact cement should work fine. Loctite PL 375 is a water-based low VOC adhesive that can be used when reupholstered door cards.

Gorilla Glue is a water-based low VOC adhesive that can be stronger than a plastic weld and is not fussy about its reaction to various climates. To use Gorilla Glue, moisten both sides, put a thin layer of glue, and spread it out with a gloved hand. Remember to avoid over-applying gorilla glue, as it expands.
