This video explains how to turn on/off the interior lights on a Hyundai Tucson, also known as dome lights for the ceiling. The interior light controls are easy to control via roof-mounted switches, and the functions of these switches are explained.
When opening doors or turning the car off, the interior ceiling lights are not coming on automatically anymore. To change the lights, press the dome lamp’s controls on either side to turn them on and off, while the cargo area lamp can be turned off by pressing directly on the light.
For a 2022 Tucson Limited, the interior lights should come on when the door or doors are opened. To do this, push the light symbol at the front of the headliner and the switch has three positions: always on, always off, or automatic. To set it to automatic, press the button on the right by the light to stay pushed in.
The interior lights automatically go off about 10 minutes after the vehicle is turned off and the doors are closed. If a door is opened, the light goes off 40 seconds. There are a few areas to check for the cause, such as defective door buttons or a switch on the dash (left side) that controls the lights. Check the control buttons by the lights, with the left one being out and the right one pressed in.

BULL CRAPOLA!! Hyundai is the only car manufacturer that I know of that you have to remember some kind of combination for the inside lights to work properly. I want my interior lights to go OFF after about 10 seconds after I close the door, but they won’t unless you know the MAGICAL combination. You have to have a switch on this way for this to happen, OR, you have to have these two buttons pushed for this to happen and on and on. It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to have my interior lights to turn off after I got out of the vehicle. I kept looking and looking and looking and looking, each time pushing another button to give you that magical sequence to make it go off!! AAARRRGGG!!!!
I have a brand new $36K Tucson SEL and have spent 2 Days reading and researching how to get the Rear Dome Light to function? or even come on at all? and still have not found a way. It’s like it is not even wired and there’s no way to tell? A simple On/OFF Slide switch on that light would have helped to isolate the problem. . . Manual P. 542 is Useless. I am P*ssed. Really P*sssed.
I loved my 2024 Tucson Hybrid when I bought it 5 months ago. Still a smooth ride. Now, I’m ready to trade it in. Dome lights? They should go on every time you open the doors without having the keys in your hands. The visor lights are a joke. Pairing up your phone? Nothing is intuitive in this vehicle. The manual is mostly worthless for me. I want old-fashioned dials and don’t give a rip about all the extras I didn’t want in the first place. Granted, maybe I’m missing some information here, but I am really annoyed. (No garage opener either and on a car that has everything else I don’t need? Yeah a first world problem. Easy fix there, of course, pull out my old remote from 15 years ago.) We were told to make an appointment with the “tech” people to figure things out. Our salesperson couldn’t even help us. PS – Now I find out that the 2025 model has dials, because “You requested it.” Great.
