What is science in interior design?

Geometry, scale, and space planning are foundational elements in designing a room. Geometry ensures that the space doesn’t look too edgy or harsh, while scale and space planning involve integrating furniture into the space. Proper height, width, and depth of furnishings and draperies are crucial for proportional design. Lighting is another important aspect, as changing light bulbs from CFLs to incandescent bulbs can change the perception of color temperature.

These elements are objective and scientific, but design is subjective and influenced by the artist’s style. It’s important to remember that design is an art form, and who is “right” in a design is subjective, as it’s a matter of personal preference.

  • I have an Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology. Graduated in 2018. My advice is don’t be afraid to jump around and always be on the lookout for better opportunities. And don’t let location hold you down. I started out after grad at 17 hr then found a job making 25hr and 125 a day per diem. Fast forward 4.5 yrs and 3 different jobs im at 40hr working 40hrs in the winter months and 50 to 70 in warmer months. Im hitting the 100k mark this year. I’ll be able to retire at 53 and have state benefits and union membership.

  • I went to community college where I live and got an associates in computer science, specifically computer networking. The whole 2 year degree cost me about 13k. I’m now making 81k a year. Where I live the cost of living index is much lower so really its like I’m’ making 100k a year. Sadly young people think they need that “university experience” and end up in huge debt. Just remember, you can still party at the big university WHILE going to community college…lol

  • Bachelor’s degrees sometimes take over 4 years – SO TRUE!! Plus so much easier to transfer credits when you have an associates degree because your credits won’t expire if you decide to take time off in between! I think it’s always good to set yourself up for transferring just in case you want to do it later. And as I’ve previously said on your website, huge advocate of starting at a community college!! As always, awesome article!

  • As someone working within the Occupational Health & Safety field, I can tell you that it can be occasionally high stress but it is extremely lucrative and has room for career advancement. Not to mention you develop great relationships with many industrial team members and get to help keep them safe! Although I am a business leadership major, I plan on returning for an EH&S certification soon!

  • Thank you for making the article. I would like to clarify that an associate’s degree in engineering (#4) do not exist in the US. Well, a credible AS degree in Engineering that is ABET accredited does not exist. Engineering Associate’s degrees are generally pre-engineering (all the high levels of math and sciences wrapped into an AS) or Engineering Technology that leads into a career as a technician, which can be a very lucrative field, but generally not designing computers.

  • Really you can get a decent job even without a degree if you’re smart. If you’re not sure what to do then just get a very bachelor’s degree in some nonsense for as cheap as possible. Most places where your degree isn’t of any use they will want a bachelors degree. If you want to be able to go to grad school you’ll need to pay attention to your GPA.

  • Shane I’m interested in going to law school and becoming a Lawyer I’m a sophomore in high school I had really bad grades through freshman year and first semester of sophomore year but now I’m currently in my second semester and getting my grades up do you think I still have a chance to getting into big law or did my grades from freshman and first semester of sophomore year ruin that for me would love to hear your opinion thanks

  • Instrumentation Technology has nothing to do with sensors or any device related to aviation like you said. Those tasks are dealt with by Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics and Avionics Technicians as the maintenance of sensors and sensing devices on aircraft are regulated by the FAA. Instrumentation Technology is a vocation involving the sensors, sensing devices, and control elements dealing with the measurement and control of pressure, temperature, level, flow, humidity, strain, and displacement of a process which can utilize devices such as flowmeters, RTD’s, load cells, pumps, valves, transmitters, and logic controllers. There are a few of your articles where you definitely give a biased and incomplete explanation and point of view. I am an electrician and I work in food processing and manufacturing. Instrumentation Technicians from any training program that I have ever been aware of (which is a lot of programs from all over the United States) do nothing with aviation. Please be more considerate of what you are saying when you clearly do not work in the field on which you are commenting.

  • Hey Shane! I’m late to the party trying to decide what to go back to school for, currently I am enrolled in an A.A.S. generals courses to be able to transfer to a radiologic technology school, which is going to be a 2 year program in itself. -For DMS and Sonography, it’s also typically another 2 years following getting prereq’s done at a community college. -Radiation Therapy is for current Rad Tech’s or MRI/Xray students to advance their career into Radiation, some prereq’s apply, Idk off the top of my head though. So, actually well over 2, maybe even 4 or more years to complete a radiation therapist program. 🙂 Ha the only reason I know this is I keep doing extensive research on all these different programs to find which one would be the best pathway for me. Loved the article! Thank you!! I’ve considered literally ALL of these. And I hope this helps someone else!

  • I’m thinking of going to Orange coast College in California and pursue Computer Science, after getting my associates degree I’d work for 2 years so i can save money to complete my bachelor’s from a university. Can you please tell me how much can I earn on an average after associates degree in Computer Science in cali ? PLSS ANSWER!

  • I tried to get my BS in Biology. Realized it wasn’t for me (as much as I loved my bio classes, I wasn’t good at anything, basically). It’s my third year and I’ve decided to change course and get my Associates in Arts from the school I’m at and transferring somewhere else for my Bachelor’s, whatever I’ll do. I’m wondering if I should go to cosmetology or something like that, first, to start a small business on the side. I don’t know for sure if college isn’t for me, but if it’s not, I might just go into aviation. That seems interesting, too

Does employers care about this? Please answer me like someone you care about.🙏 And do you suggest me sir to let go of bachelor and don’t finish it? Do you consider it not worth it??🥺

  • I graduated with an associates in applied science (MIS) so MIS degree. what type of computer jobs could I go for with this degree?
