Custom-made stencils provide a unique edge to cookie decorating, ideal for creating branded cookies for businesses or personalized designs for special occasions. They allow for creative freedom and allow for instant flair. To use a cookie stencil effectively, ensure your cookie has a completely dry, flat surface and not stencil until the flood has dried for at least 24 hours.
Cookie stenciling involves various methods of stenciling, such as airbrushing with stencils, scraping with stencils, and cookie stenciling with royal icing using a stencil. Applying a thin layer of royal icing over a stencil can give a cookie dimension and texture. Layering on a rather thick coat of icing with an offset spatula, such as a metal spatula, is recommended for a cleaner edge.
In this video, the author demonstrates how to use a cookie stencil using a stencil frame or a simple set of magnets, and shares common mistakes to avoid.

This helps sooo much, thank you! But, another thing I want to know is how to stencil multiple cookies without having to wash the stencil every time. It seems as if even if I don’t have icing bleed underneath, the stencil still carries over dried icing from each cookie. What am I doing wrong? I’ve never seen a article demonstrating stenciling multiple cookies with the same stencil, back to back, assembly line fashion.
Thank you for this article! LOVE your products and article tutorials. Can you please help with writing the recipe you used for the icing on this cookie article? I am not sure how to make the icing ..I purchased the natural colors from Cookie Countess and I think I will purchase your Merengue Powder too but I don’t like using artificial flavors or bad chemicals in my food… not sure if you added anything artificial in your icing recipe. Please help =)
