This Adobe XD tutorial by Dani Beaumont demonstrates how to create inner shadows in Illustrator. The Inner Shadow tool applies a shadow on the inside of the selected object, which can be used to add depth to designs. To create an inner shadow effect in Illustrator, duplicate the normal shape and apply the duplicate as a mask on an image. Move the masked image on top of the shape with the drop shadow.
In Adobe XD, you can use the property inspector to change the appearance of objects, including shadow, blur, fill, border, and opacity. You can also create soft UI components and editable inner shadows. To create inner shadows, click the object and then click Drop Shadow or Inner Shadow in the Property Inspector. In the color picker, add a color and set the opacity of the shadow.
To create depth on the design canvas, create a rectangle with a fat border, set the border color to white, and add shadow with X=0, Y=0, B=15. This tutorial provides a comprehensive guide on how to create inner shadows in Adobe XD, a feature not currently part of the pro version.

I built the original design UI in photoshop then wanted to transition into XD to do a prototype with animations etc and was stumped on how to replicate the inner-shadow … thank you! I’ve also added another layer on top of the masked group with a slightly smaller width and height with no fill and 1pt white border and finally added another layer under it with a drop shadow for some extra pop – then grouped the whole thing. My inner blur is even around the perimeter with a low opacity, thicker border and high blur to give the element the illusion of convexity.
