How To Use Packet Tracer To Create A Smart Home?

This document focuses on the process of designing a smart home using Cisco Packet Tracer, which includes both wired and wireless IoT devices. The goal is to explore the existing smart home network and add wired IoT devices to it. The video demonstrates how to set up an IoT smart home with sensors that detect home factors such as fire, motion, image, sound, and temperature. The sensor inputs are then subsequently used to control the operation and turn off electronic devices via a smartphone.

The project uses the Cisco Packet Tracer software to design, simulate, and control smart home networks using IoT devices. The overall smart home design using Packet Tracer software is presented in Figure 1, showing how to use sensors to make IoT devices react automatically. The project is implemented using the current version of Cisco Packet Tracer 7.2, which includes new released and updated versions of all IoT devices.

The aim of this paper is to model and simulate an IoT system for a smart home using different addressable IoT devices that allow the transmission of data. The first step is to configure the home gateway by clicking Home to expand the cluster, clicking Home Gateway, and selecting Internet. Selecting DHCP for IP allows for the transmission of data.

In conclusion, this document provides a comprehensive guide on how to design, simulate, and control smart home networks using IoT devices using Cisco Packet Tracer. It also covers the process of creating a smart home and implementing the necessary steps to ensure security and functionality.

  • Sadly this tutorial no longer works because when you try to access the IoT Monitor you get a Request Timeout. Not sure how to fix this but I’ll update my comment if I find a way. EDIT : So I followed this other tutorial, and I managed to make everything work. Highly recommend it youtube.com/watch?v=VJYNkI3XXDg
