To turn off all interior lights in a Ford Windstar, move the dimmer switch “scroll wheel” all the way to the bottom, feeling it hit an indent. If you’re having problems with the interior lights staying on, pull a fuse from Fuse 4, Passenger Side: Interior demand lamps (overhead console, second row), or press to switch the lamps on or off. The rear interior lamps may be above the rear seat or above the rear windows. To deactivate the interior lights, turn the dimmer scroll-wheel either all the way down.
In a 2003 Ford Windstar van, the interior lights stay on when the key is taken out of ignition but work properly when the key is left in after turning off. The cause could be a dimmer, and the lights behind the front seats and near the floor are not going off even when locking the van. To turn off the interior lights, move the dimmer switch “scroll wheel” all the way to the bottom.
One way to fix the dome light switch is to spray PB Blaster or WD 40 into the latch and open and close the door several times, up to 20. Lubricate all door latches with a spray lubricant, and remove each door switch one at a time to avoid possible grounding there.
If the interior lights remain on while driving, check if all doors are closed and try using the fuse 12 15amp to shut off the lamps 10 minutes after the ignition has been turned off. The door jam switches are built into the door latches on that car and have a history of sticking problems.
