This video demonstrates how to remove the front door trim on a Toyota Corolla without any special tool. The power connector for the “step” or “courtesy” light should be located at the bottom of the door panel. Press the release button on the power plug and slide it straight out of the socket. Lift the door panel up and off the metal door frame.
Removing the trim itself requires removing all clips and holding it from the bottom rear corner. Slide it forward toward the front of the door. For repairs, such as door handles, window regulators, power window motors, and door locks, the trim removal tool is recommended.
In an eleventh generation 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 Toyota Corolla, the plastic interior door panels can be removed to upgrade OEM door speakers. For an XV50 7th generation Toyota Camry, the steps are illustrated with photo illustrations and required tools list.
To remove the bottom door molding, remove the round plug at the bottom, inside the doors, and behind that. Remove the sill cover from the door sill using a flat screwdriver and pop out the bottom trim piece. Use needle nose pliers to push the tabs in and pull the piece outward, allowing access to drain holes in the door.
When removing the trim itself, ensure all clips are out and hold it from the bottom rear corner. Behind the handle is a trim piece to pry off using your removal tool. Remove the two black nuts to the rear of the door first, then pull hard at the end of the plastic trim piece to remove it.

I made sure the connect the cables correctly. Have any idea what might be the issue? Door works and open and closed just fine. Just doesn’t lock and the key won’t turn if I try to lock it manually
Thank you for the article, it’s very informative. But I have a problem with my driver side door internal. There is a pull rod inside the door that has a hook, hooking onto the door frame, is broke off the hook, so every time I try to close the door, it is making a very loud noise. How can I replace that rod ? Is it easy to replace? and what is the cost? Or must I bring it to the dealer to have it replaced ? Thanks
