To minimize the rattle of your vehicle’s dome light assembly or sunroof control, start by pushing on some of the panels in the front seat and squeaking them as they bend and deform. If you hear plastic rattle noise, apply 1mm felt tape under the cover to prevent contact between the plastic cover and bottom piece. Holding your finger on the dome light can also help fix the rattle.
Loose or damaged interior trim such as door panels, door scuff plates, and speaker covers can cause vibration during acceleration or when the vehicle reaches certain speeds. To fix this issue, pop off a plastic cover to expose the two Phillips screws that hold the dome light assembly to the roof and fish your fingers back into the headliner. Add a small strip of Xtreme Dynamat once you determine the fit of the replacement headliner.
If the dome light area is the cause of vibration, try using Shinetsu grease from Honda to grease up all the rubber. The dome light area cover is easy to pull down and should come out easily with patience. If you have a rattle in your dome light, suppress it by holding your finger on the light cover.
For the SE-R, try pulling the panel down from the edge closest to the light and sticking a small piece of thick, double-sided tape between the plastic and the headliner. No more rattling then. The easiest solution is to fashion leaf-type springs of your own out of scrap metal, something soft like aluminum or copper. This may help remove the rattle and plan to put some padding or tighten up the wiring in there.

Second time one of the 2 screws has come loose, and the rattling and rolling around of the screw was driving me crazy. First time this happened, I took it to the dealer. It was under warranty, so no problems. This time I knew it wouldn’t be under warranty, so I came to YT, and your article was first to pop up. 30 seconds into the article and my problem was solved. Popped it open, and there lay the screw. I will put a dab of loc-tite on both of these screws so they don’t ever come loose again. Thanks.
You are a Godsend! I have taken apart the glove box three times, complete center dash twice, boroscoped, scraped up my hands feeling around and blew are through the dash to hopefully blow out the offending piece. It sounded like a screw rattling around the glove box area or center or console. Popped the overhead console and there it was, the screw I have been chasing for a month. Thanks for the tip!
I recently bought a 2015 GMC 2500 HD and I just noticed that there are water stains around the overhead center council. I’m assuming that it leaks around the center cab lights. How do I remove it and seal it? I asked the older gentleman who I bought it from and he said that he never noticed it. Imagine that.
Thank you, thank you!! I thought there were some broken clips in my console because I would hear a rattling from time to time and the lip was hanging down like a 1/2. Turns out both screws, like you mentioned, had rattled out so it appeared like my console was broken, but those screws just needed to be put back in and everything looks perfect again.👌🏼
I have a 2021 Silverado Custom and I’m installing a power rear sliding window. I’m bought the roof console with the sliding window button mechanism. I’m curious whether the power already on the roof console will power the rear sliding window after running the harness from power sliding window in the rear of the truck to the roof console. Thanks for the article…
