Great job!! For smaller holes (or if you aren’t a golfer) you can use wooden match sticks. Elmers Wood Glue works well also. For surface dings or chips, my dad would mix a bit of wood glue with some fine sawdust. A homemade wood “spackle” that could be sanded off – especially on furniture that was painted. (My folks lived thru the depression, so we were ALL about mending & making it work). I bet Tyler felt pretty proud of helping you fix the problem.
My sister and I got into a fight back 40 years ago. I was so mad I beat the door and door frame completely off the wall. Well, when we both realized what happen, we stopped fighting and both fixed the door as well as we could. 10 years later my dad remodel that room when my sister moved out. He asked my sister how was that door standing up because it was put together so bad. At least at we were 20 years old and our dad can’t whip us at that age. ~~~ He had to replace the whole door frame. He should have made us pay for it. …. but 20 year olds have no money.
Another great article. Frugal Fit Dad once again great for trying new things and teaching your kids. I know it’s not funny that they broke the door. I beat you they was having some fun when all of a sudden the door breaks and then the seriousness comes into play lol having to tell the parents what happened.
This reminds me of the time my buddy Perry and I were playing tag in his parents apartment after school and he slammed the door on me as I ran at him full speed- ripping the door off the hinges. Perry later told me when his dad got home instead off golf tees he used bourbon and a belt. Not sure the details of that repair.
Just fixed my door today. The top hinge had movement where i had to lift up the handle while closing, or it caught the frame on the left side. Simply put new larger screws in. But some wouldn’t tighten. So will have to find something small enough to fit in the really small holes, as wooden dowels won’t even fit. I don’t trust the the old matchsticks trick as i think they’re too brittle. This looks a good solution.
