Can I teach myself interior design?

Design school is a crucial step towards professional practice in interior design, according to David Harper, associate dean at the New York School of Interior Design. Attending design school offers a holistic view of the industry and the craft, focusing on techniques, schematics, and compositions. It also forces students to study topics that a layperson may not consider, such as art history, color theory, and specific computer programs. Maria Lomanto, president of ASID New York Metro and founding principal of DesignGLXY, urges that attending school is essential for those pursuing interior design and not just decorating.

She believes that learning about building standards, codes, health safety, welfare, and lighting through experience would be slow and arduous, and any experience gained prior to classwork would not count towards qualifying for the exam.

Can I self teach interior design?

Self-studying interior design can lead to finding work in the industry or becoming an interior design entrepreneur without returning to school. There are five ways to self-study interior design, and being self-taught can mean teaching yourself using online resources without taking a course. This approach allows you to develop your skills and become a successful interior designer without the need for additional education or certifications.

How can I improve my home interior design?

Interior designers have shared 20 brilliant, bargain ways to improve your home on a budget. One of the most popular ways is to source everything for free or very cheaply. Banjo Beale, an interior designer and author, shares his favorite price is free and his second favorite price is cheap. He has lived on the Isle of Mull for 10 years and sources a lot on the island, where people are conscious of throwing anything out. Charity shops are his best friend, as they are always keeping things that might spark joy one day.

One way to create a window nook is to convert a big window into a cosy reading seat for a couple of hundred pounds. Beale built a simple frame with ply around the window to create a seat and shelving, and a comfortable backrest using MDF tongue-and-groove panelling. For the day bed, he used old bed posts and cushion inners from a charity shop to make the bench seat. Beale has also turned a fishing net into a hammock elsewhere in the house.

  • To improve my drawing skills I always try to do manual drafting rather than to rely too much on architectural softwares. From time to time, I do freehand drawings (even on floor plans hahaha) so that I also have to rely less on rulers and my t-square. I love doing freehand drawings because it takes less time and I am really just lazy lol. This article is educational but is also full of memes. Hahahaha

  • I was not in the mood until i saw your article and walaah🎉 im in the mood again! Haha! By the way i have questions that keeps bothering my mind! 1.How did you learn using autocads? Photoshop? Or something used in architecture? Because soon i will be a college student yet still dont know how to use those! 2. And also why are architects used to write in capital letters? (Im curious!) By the way thanks for these again I do really learn a lot from your articles ever since !🤟🤙🤘✍

  • I taught that to my students when I handled TLE classes (tho i’m a math major). I love to draw and i remember how I loved my drafting classes back in high school. ❤. I am always happy to see students who are happy doing their plates and see some of them dreaming to be an architect someday. Teacher’s pride really the success of their students.. I’m binge perusal all of your vids maduds. A little part of me who wants to be an architect is happy 😍

  • Thank you kuya Llyan this can help me improve my drawing skills because frankly I’m not that good at drawing but I really want to be an architect. Creative naman akong tao especially sa designs yung drawing skills ko lang talaga ang hindrance HAHAHAHA i hope you’ll make more articles about architecture and architecture school. Stay safe po😊

  • im just grade 7 but im al ready overthinking like i love cucling i love drawing but in architecture you really need to spend time to focus on some plates “what if” i cant afford some things like acrylic paints colored pencil etc markers rulers and more aghhh and morning to night making tamplates then you can’t play with your bebe bike huhu

  • I wish I wasn’t afraid of choosing architecture for years because I thought I couldn’t draw straight lines or because I thought I wasn’t creative enough. If I knew I was going to eventually choose architecture, I’d have been more prepared with articles like yours. Still, your articles are plenty helpful and I’m glad to have found you.

  • Llyan can to tell how to use orbit command in sketchup with mouse logitech mxmaster 2s which i recently bought. And which orbit command is default in other mouse by long pressing it to orbit around the model and same for the autocad in which regular mouse long press scroll activate pan command. so please give me some solution for it…..

  • I just love perusal your vedios.. you have great sense of humour and strong verbal hold of language which makes it so simple to understand what ever you teach .. and all the tricks and tips u have taught and are teaching are super cool… M so inspired to work in those ways ❤️ Thank You so much .. I wish u come up with software vedios too .. 🙂 love you man ❣️❣️❣️❣️

  • I always thought that when you draw intersecting lines or lines that overlap to much on a certain point it is considered trash cuz its not perfect when you create an image, but the truth is it is really okay and it really looks good when you create perspectives and with the use of free hand skills, especially to the people who are Architects and Architect Students. Practice makes perfect ika-nga… 😀
