Before starting any repair work on a mobile home door, it is essential to inspect the door for signs of damage or rot, as well as its proper hanging and space. If the door is not properly aligned, follow these steps:
- Check the door frame: Use a level to ensure the door frame is plumb and square. Adjust the frame as needed.
- Assess, repair, and replace damaged parts of a mobile home exterior door with this step-by-step guide. Find out what tools and materials may be needed and how to prevent air leaks.
- Level an entry door for a manufactured home using Donne Fulton’s Quick Jack. Tighten and replace hardware by tightening screws on locks, latches, and hinges. If components show signs of rust or wear, swap them out for new, weather-resistant components.
- Choose and install a new mobile home exterior door that suits your style, budget, and needs. Compare different materials, designs, and features of mobile home doors and get tips on measuring.
- Shim the hinges: Use thin cardboard or wooden shims between the hinges and the door frame to realign the door. Measure the width of the door using the outer wood jamb horizontally from one side of the frame to the opposite side.
- Insert the door assembly carefully into the rough opening, making sure the door sill is secure on the floor. Move the door to the hinge side until firmly pressed.
- If the door is warped on the latch side, usually the best method combines hinge adjustments as well. This method can correct the problem without replacing the entire door.
