How special this sign is. I love it. I also love how you are decorating Little Man’s nursery with all the woodland animals. It is so cute, cozy and homey. His room fits in completely with the style of the rest of your home (which I honestly love how it is decorated!). You are. Such a sweet and beautiful young woman and I know you are going to be a wonderful mother. God bless you, Whitney.
When you talked about using wax that the colour wouldn’t stick to that area I remember the blanket we bought on a trip. They used the wax technique to draw a picture on it and then dyed it blue. Where the wax was used stayed white. I’m am going to try this technique on my big welcome signs. Love that multi layer look.
Hi Deidra. Just come across your wonderful website from this side of the pond, Bolton, Lancashire, UK. I’m a professional artist doing painting demonstrations across the care sector here but lost my self employed title due to the impact of Covid-19 restrictions. This in effect, destroyed my confidence over the last 12 months. I lost the will to paint and my creative juices stopped flowing. I recently got motivated by a very good ex art teacher who had set up a gallery and invited me to join their network, registered with the charity and became gallery manager. I still couldn’t find the will to paint though but I really enjoy this new experience. As we developed the gallery, I found lots of old pallets which kind of inspired me to look differently at art. I began cutting them, used my old acrylic paints to colour them which took me in a new direction. I didn’t quite know what to do further so I searched on line and came across your bubbly, live enthusiastic touch. I’ve completely turned a corner and with your experience and knowledge, have been combining my art with wood. I find you totally engaging and will be replicating many of your expert guidance as I continue to build. Thank you so much for your help and truly inspiring me. I will show you one or two pieces of my recent work… XX
Hello Deidra, just found your website & OMG I love it, can’t stop perusal you! All your projects are fabulous & very inspiring, however I just wanna say the retro plywood sign in this article was so awesome, I love it, I actually have two pieces like that one that size & one a little smaller, I knew I was saving them for a reason! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I’m thinking something with a coffee graphic as I really need some over my coffee bar area…so stay tuned! I let you know how it turns out Thank you so much for your motivation & inspiration! 💕 Bonne
So, here is my problem with all of these techniques; I did chalk layer paint & LOVED it! Turned out GREAT. I used thicker glue & a linen chalk color paint on top for one project & a silver lining color on next project. I let all dry over night. Next, I did the graphics on an inkjet printer, reversed & matte mod podge over night dry. Next day, using a damp paper towel, was able to get most of the paper off. HOWEVER, it would not all come off 😢!! And, used a damp terry cloth rag to attempt to get rest off. Both paper towel & rag could not get mod podge residue off of area around letters, but instead muddied up the glue & took off crackle paint underneath 😭😭😭😭😭. I was using small, gentle, circular motion you were using in article. Only thing I can figure out is maybe I possibly put Too Much MP on? Please let me know your thoughts!! Pretty disappointed because all was looking so great!!
Ooooh! I like both of those!! I always see black and white layers done so this was especially great to watch. The technique using multiple colors is so pretty! (I would never have thought to do different colors underneath.) ❤️ I love it, and ooooooh, I can’t wait to try that out!!! 😃 I’m so glad you shared these with us! Now, to go out in the shed, and begin the hunt for wood…
I am thrilled that I stumbled onto your website. Not intending to be hurtful, but every time I go on YouTube I’m seeing the same thing by several websites, although very good very talented people. I am so excited that I finally found a website that is very unique. Keep up the Awesome work. ❤ PS I can’t believe today is the first day I’m ever seeing any of your articles. I’m ecstatic!😁 can’t wait to see more of your Amazing projects 🦋APPY FA🌽🌽 Y🍁LL
Such great tutorials thank you! I became a bit impatient waiting the full 24 hours, and although my transfer worked, it was fairly faint…so I painted over it with black paint….but if I sand the lettering is the black paint going to smear/smudge onto the white? (Will definately wait the 24 hours next time!!!! lol)
You have NO IDEA how many ideas the going via hiking round is giving me. I was born with the gift for the arts and I don’t say that to brag at all, but that would have been a DOPE (cool for those of you there were not in NYC in the 90s) Jupiter relief style painting. Dang it! I pray that I will be blessed enough to find a round for myself.
I’m loving your articles, thanks for taking the time to share. I saw in an earlier article that you also do lettering “right side up” and leave the paper on but I like the reverse lettering much more. I was wondering whether you’ve tried reverse letters printed onto napkin or tissue paper. The earlier article has right side up letters printed onto napkin but I’m thinking it might be really well suited to reverse letters as it ought to rub off much more easily when damp than regular printer paper. I’d love to hear whether you’ve tried that it if it works well or has problems. Thanks again.
Wow these are amazing! I am a new decoupage crafter and I am still learning how to make wood and mason jar crafts. What is the purpose of the “wax” you use after painting? And how were you able to get the “crackle” effect on your 2nd project? Does that just naturally happen with Elmer’s and chalk paint? Or did I miss a step? Thank you for your creativity and your tutorials, so unique and beautiful 😍
So I followed your recipe for chalk paint, wrote it down as … 1 cup layted, eggshell…1/3 cup water, 1 cup Plaster of Paris. I mixed the Plaster of Paris with the water then added the paint and as soon as I did, the mixture seized up. I think there’s too much plaster to the paint ratio. I had to divide the mixture into other jars and add more paint. I have to be the worst student EVER! But from now on, I’m going to add 2 TBLS Plaster of Paris to two cups paint and see how that works out. NOt having any luck with the reverse graphics either, even though I pay to have Staples print them on a laser printer, seems their paper is too thick and silky. I have all the cut boards and I don’t even want to do anything with them. I think this is hopeless.
Today I’m doing my wood wood piece based on your instructions with a graphic. I’m excited to see the end product and hope it’s as good as your pieces. I purchased a graphic from your Etsy shop and want to say thank you for the three formats for such a great price. I accidentally bought a college thinking it was yours only to find out it was another seller who didn’t include a PDF or JPEG, only an SVG, which I had no clue what that was. Now I know so my daughter will cut those on her Silhouette. Am I correct in thinking that buy once, print as much as I want? I love your graphics.
I really enjoy your articles, however I have an issue with your website that I don’t have with other YouTubers that I watch. If I visit an advertiser or drop my phone while perusal you, I can’t get back to the same article. Try as I might I rarely get to the end of one of your tutorials because they dissapear. I wonder if other watchers have this problem…
Hi! Came across your website and I am an immediate SUBSCRIBE! I love your work. I found a bunch of old wooden pallets in the loft of the garage in my new home and now I know what to do with all of that old wood! Question…when you wet and remove the paper from the ModPodge transfers, are you using something other than your finger tips to remove the wet paper? It looks like you have something in your hands like a brush or sandpaper? Great content – pouring some fresh coffee and getting ready for a binge watch!
Thank you for your reply to my question. I appreciate your time. I want to use your pdf/png file I just purchased. But I need it to be about 12 x 14. I know how to rotate and mirror that file in Google docs. I would like to know if it’s possible to somehow print this on my printer for the size I need. I have searched Google and I’m not finding a way. Thank you
I LOVE THE SECOND ONE… It looks authentic and exactly the intended outcome. The first one is beautiful but because the lettering looks so sharp it looks like new lettering on an old piece of wood but that second one tree looks like an antique sign that you found in some barn way back in there hiding. I freaking love it the more imperfect it looks the more authentic it is I am absolutely going to use this technique on that exact type of wood thank you so much you have absolutely gained a gnu far I am so glad I found this website. ✌🏾❤️
So I put your graphic on painted wood that I had copied at Staples on a laser printer. They use paper that feels like silk @ 20.00 a ream. You always recommend cheap paper, I know. When I started to rub off after putting water on it, some of the graphic came off and I had to repaint with a small brush. Everything looked grey. I was so disappointed. One trick I thought of was to cut off as much of the paper around the graphic so there’s less to rub off. I did put enough Mod Podge on it and let it dry a little longer than 24 hrs. I can’t figure out what happened. Was it the paper? I want to do more but not sure it’ll happen again.
