  • So I used this article as a reference and on a 2011 4runner the center dome light that you say be careful, I broke the bulb and had glass all over, so the way it worked the best is to pull down the surrounding plastic trim from the rear facing side about 1-1/2″ and twist the bulb socket out and pull out the bulb, way easier and less dangerous.

  • Map lights: It’s way easier to flip down the glasses compartment and remove 2 screws holding it up and unclip 1 wire harness to access the bulbs. They are in little turn-lockers that can be easily flipped around if you happen to install the lights with the polarity reversed. So much easier that dickin’ around with needle nose pliers trying to get a grip a small glass bulb….it would suck to do all that just to find out you put them in backward.

  • For the vanity bulbs you may want to consider sticking to filament bulbs unless you can find an LED retrofit that has a decent Color Rendering Index (CRI). LED’s are great for everything else but if you have a bitchy girlfriend who actually spends time on that vanity she’s not going to like a low CRI bulb to apply makeup which deals with proper coloring and shading.

  • I’m guessing that even though my 4runner is an 03, if it uses any of these types of bulbs im good to go? You dont list an interior kit for my dinosaur, can you assemble one? One last question…does the 03 runner (4X4 Sport, V6, halogen reflector HL) require (reccommend) using Canbus bulbs or other power supply tech stuff? Thanks!

  • Don’t use pliers to remove the front bulbs!!! You’ll brake it. Remove 2 screws behind the glasses compartment with a Phillips screwdriver and remove the whole overhead console. The bulbs are held in a plastic socket. Twist it to remove and replace the bulbs properly and much easier. It literally takes a minute, maybe two. DO NOT USE PLIERS!.

  • I tried the pliers and was afraid of breaking the bulbs. The needle nose pliers kept slipping off the bulb. Also tried wrapping tape around the bulb, didn’t work for me. I then used double sided tape on a pair of needle nose pliers. I trimmed the tape making a long slender triangle matching the jaws of the pliers. Bulbs popped right out with no slippage from the pliers and required less pressure insuring I didn’t break the bulbs. Secondly, concerning the door puddle lights. It’s much easier to disconnect the wire connection then removing the light assembly so you can see it better and work on it much easier. There’s a grey plastic cover over the bulb which needs to be removed to access the bulb. I found by inserting a small flat screwdriver in the gap just below the apex of the arch of the cover and applying a little pressure the cover pops right off. After installing the new bulb and replacing the grey cover all you have to do is reconnect the wires before inserting assembly back in the door. Hope these tips help!!
