How To Install An Arch Frame On An Inside Wall?

A living or dining room archway is a great way to open up a room and create a modern yet timeless feel. To create an arched doorway, you need precision and skill. To do this, you must first place the arch frame in the doorway and use wood screws to attach it. Cover the arch frame in drywall and use joint compound to patch and clean up any seams and edges.

To create the arched top, use pieces of plywood and tie a piece of string to a pencil to get a round half circle shape on the plywood. Cut out the arched top using a drill.

The Universal Arch Kit can be used to transform any square opening into an elegant arch in minutes. Take two sheets of plywood or similar material, cut slightly larger than the opening, place one on either side, and use a few big bolts and nuts driven through.

If you want to put an office or similar work area into a room that is accessed through an arched doorway, you need to cover it up in some way. Draw the new squared off arch in pencil on the wall, carefully cutting the plasterboard with a plasterboard saw, up to 1 inch from the final line. Frame the square as a regular window and create an arch inside with thin plywood and 2x sufficient to secure 1/4″ drywall.

Turn off the radiator, allow it to cool, and measure the positions of fixing the radiator to the wall using steal tape.

How to disguise an archway?

Arch arches, popular in the past, have become less desirable due to their time-consuming, dirtier, and costly removal process. To hide or integrate arches without demolishing them, curtains can be used on windows and inner doorways. Cover the upper, curved part of the arch with drapery, forming a rectangular shape by side curtains. Blinds can be used for windows. If the upper part of the arch is built up, a rectangular door can be used to close inner openings without doors.

If the opening is not tall enough, an outside-wall sliding door can be placed. The door panel should be oversized to cover the curved part and placed on the side from which the arch is more annoying. A mirror in the unused pass-through window and a console table or chest of drawers can distract from the arch’s shape and make the space useful. Adding shelves to the arched pass-through window can create an excellent storage and displaying space. Seeking the help of an interior designer for further solutions is recommended.

  • brilliant advice and great instructions. Gave me the the confidence to remove the arch and was exactly the same as described in article. I’m just a DIY’er but following the article and research I can say I’ve now got rid of the arch and looks great and more light comes into the rooms. Have confidence to go for it. I’d advise to core drill the dry wall 50mm core to check what’s behind the dry wall if your unsure. if not what you expect you can use replace the core and fill it back in. Thanks for posting. Fab resource.

  • I have 2 doorway arches on the same wall. They do not exactly match. One has a slight point and one is completely round. I thought somebody must have had a few, but no way this is accidental. A friend bought a 50’s home and said his same way. Can anyone tell me the significance of one point and one round?
