The installation of a dog door in an exterior wall requires several steps and tools. First, determine the location of the pet door installation, choosing a spot that is easily accessible for your dog and not disrupted by daily traffic. Cut a hole in the exterior wall and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Next, finish the exterior wall by installing the dog door according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This can be done with various types of walls, such as drywall, brick, stucco, wood, siding, and alternative walls. Dual flaps are available for easy access to the door.
To install the door, use a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall and mark their location with a pencil. Check for electrical/plumbing fixtures that may need to be checked. For trickier installations, such as wall pet doors, it is recommended to hire a professional.
In addition to the installation of the door, you will also need professional equipment like a hammer, jigsaw, drill, and screwdriver. Place the interior frame with the tunnel attached into the opening in the wall from the inside of the building. Place the exterior frame into the same opening. Trace the pet door template onto the area where you want to place the door using a pencil and mark any essential screw holes.
