How do I bring my hair extensions back to life?
Hair extensions can be revived by following a four-step revival plan. First, detangle the hair extensions with a wide-tooth comb to remove any knots. Then, shampoo the extensions and roll them up in a bundle, ensuring all wefts are together. Deep condition the hair extensions and then dry them.
As high-quality virgin human hair is an investment, it is essential to ensure they are long-lasting. However, after some time, all hair may be a bit worse for wear. To revive hair extensions, follow these steps:
Detangle the hair extensions from the ends and slowly work your way up to the roots. Use your fingers to loosen any knots and continue detangling with the comb.
Use a wide-tooth comb instead of a paddle brush to prevent breakage, especially while wet. Once the hair extensions are properly detangled, shampoo them to restore their shine and health.
How do I make my hair extensions sticky again?
Reusing tape-in extensions is a common practice, but it requires thorough washing and drying. The process involves removing the previous sticky tab from the top of the tape, washing and conditioning it with hair extensions-friendly products, and drying and smoothing the hair. The hairdresser then peels a strip from the paper and re-sticks the new tab to the top of the tape extension, ensuring it is stuck onto the same side as the previous one. This process is repeated on each tape hair extension, ensuring the new tabs do not overhang, which can cause knottiness in the natural hair.
The number of times you can reuse tape-in extensions depends on the quality of the extensions. AAA grade quality extensions can be re-used once, lasting up to 12 weeks, including one retaping session. Higher quality extensions, like Remy Royale Tapes or Invisible Tapes, have a life span of 6-12 months and can be reapplied 2-3 times, provided the condition is still good. If the hair extensions are not in good condition or have been cared for incorrectly, they should not be reapplied.

Was contemplating buying new extensions for the second time in a year but luckily found this. My extensions had gotten so dry at the ends, I was also debating on if I should just cut 5cm off but would rather not, as it obviously can’t grow back. But I followed this article and they no longer feel dry, they actually feel quite soft again. Thank you so much.
Hi! THANK YOU for the helpful article! This also applies for tape extensions right? I’m removing mine and I do not want to waste more money on new extensions.. so I desperately want to take care of it and make it last. I am putting them back in after I’ve let my hair rest a little, so I don’t want to make any mistakes here 🙈❤️
Not to sound rude, but why would you ever consider boiling synthetic hair, any OG will tell you to use warm water or steam with hot water and dish soap (look up the article for the type of soap). That will ruin your wig FAST. I tried this method years ago and had my hair matted and ruined. For human hair, yes it works depending on how you do it, BUT not for synthetic hair EVER!!! I would recommend perusal the YouTuber “GlamFam Hair & Beauty” love his articles. My wigs come out perfect every time.
I once tried this with my lace wig with conditioner in the water. I boiled the water and then took it off the flame. Dumped a bunch of conditioner in it and dunked my wig. I let it sit for about 30 minutes. It didn’t work. It was just as dry as before I put it in there. Now this is when I used to use blonde lace wigs. I now have a color 2b. I don’t think it was chemically colored. But I am going to try this method again with the product you recommend. Will upstate you with results.
