📹 Kitchen Cabinet Colors – Avoid These 7 HUGE Mistakes!

Choosing the right color for your kitchen cabinets is important, and this video will help you avoid some of the most common color …

What are the rules for kitchen island design?

The NKBA guidelines recommend a seat width of 24 inches, although the requisite knee space is contingent upon countertop height. For an island with a height of 30 inches, a depth of 18 inches is recommended. For an island with a height of 36 inches, a depth of 15 inches is recommended, while for an island with a height of 42 inches, a depth of 12 inches is recommended.

Can I design my own kitchen island?

When designing a kitchen island, consider options such as standard counter height base cabinets, combining base and wall cabinets for a two-tiered island, or using wall cabinets for a bar-height island. Kitchen island cabinets can be purchased online, at a cabinet dealer, or in a home improvement store. The average cost of a kitchen island is twice the linear foot cost of standard cabinets due to finished panels and moldings. Islands are typically 36″ high for standard work surfaces, but can have secondary bar height seating at 42″ high.

Do island cabinets need to match kitchen cabinets?

Do island cabinets need to match kitchen cabinets?

Matching cabinets to your kitchen island can add cohesion, style, and focal points to your space. You can either have the island stand alone with accent colors or add symmetry with complementary colors, textures, and fixtures. Here are seven tips for tying your cabinets and kitchen island together:

  1. Decide between matching vs. contrasting. You can either have the island be the same color and material as your cabinets or play off of one another. This will help create the kitchen of your dreams.

How high should a kitchen island with seating be?

A kitchen island should be 36 inches tall, with seating between table seats and bar stools. Some professionals recommend 42 inches for seating and eating. Most islands are 2 or 3 feet wide, but larger ones can be budgeted for more counter and seating space. A cooktop or sink can be added for an additional 7 feet. A minimum depth of 2 feet is recommended, with 3 feet of floor space on the ends for easy movement. A kitchen island should be at least 2 feet deep, with enough room on all sides for movement.

Should kitchen island be same height as cabinets?

Should kitchen island be same height as cabinets?

The island in most kitchens is typically at the same height as the cabinets, creating a functional and ergonomic space. This design is ideal for classic U-shaped kitchen layouts, where the island sits in the center. However, choosing the right height for an island depends on the user’s height and the desired use of the space. Magnus Nilsson, Lead Designer at Blakes London, recommends a height between 35″ – 43″ depending on the height of the users.

If unsure, it’s better to go towards the upper end of the scale, especially if there is a sink on the island. For a tall 6ft person, a sink at 35″ may not be ideal, as it would require stooping to wash up. Overall, the ideal height for an island depends on the user’s needs and preferences.

How wide is a kitchen island with seating?

The typical size range for kitchen islands is 4-6 ft (48-72″), which strikes an optimal balance between workspace and storage while allowing for comfortable movement. In the case of larger kitchens, an area exceeding 8ft (96″) is optimal, offering a spacious work zone, ample storage, and a designated seating area with a minimum clearance of 3ft.

Should kitchen island line up with cabinets?

Should kitchen island line up with cabinets?

The kitchen island and counters require a walkway to function properly. The recommended space between kitchen worktops includes both countertops and islands. For a single cook kitchen, a minimum gap between the island and cabinets should be at least 42 inches. For multiple cooks, a minimum gap of 48 inches is necessary to ensure space for working and accessing cabinets. Insufficient space can make it difficult for other individuals to enter the kitchen.

Work aisles and walkways should be separate, but extra space can be added for roomier kitchens. When choosing a location for your kitchen island, consider its purpose. If it’s for cooking and meal prep, place it near the most convenient access to ingredients and appliances. For islands with seating, position it near the main work area for comfortable seating while cooking.

Should an island be lighter or darker than cabinets?

Homeowners often opt for a light color for wall cabinets and a darker shade for the island when renovating their kitchen. This can be done by using a dark brown for the island and a lighter brown for the wall cabinets. Another option is to use light cream for the wall cabinets and navy, dark blue, or black for the island cabinet, while maintaining the same countertop color and material. A survey by Kitchen Trends showed that 41 homeowners prefer a contrasting color for their kitchen island, while 59 prefer the same or a very similar color.

What cabinets should be in a kitchen island?

Base cabinets are typically used for kitchen islands due to their floor-standing design. They can be combined with wall cabinets to create an island that suits your specific dimensions, layout, and functional preferences. Wall cabinets, designed to sit against the wall above countertops and appliances, can be used in some island designs for counter-height designs or for bar-style seating. Pairing wall and base cabinets can create a two-tiered look or add visual interest and storage space for a double-sided island. Panda Kitchen and Bath offers a large inventory of affordable RTA cabinets to make island installation simple, allowing you to browse online or find a dealer near you.

  • That was an amazing build. Your designs are not always my “style,” and I think this would have looked fine with just the countertop and the blue drawers, but I am always impressed by your skills and especially your attention to detail with finishing (sanding and polishing). Everything is always super shiny and well made.

  • Hi dude I am from india. I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional work you’ve done on the recent project.

• Where do you come up with these ideas???? No one on YouTube is doing anything like this, or any of your projects! I’d love to spend 5 minutes in your mind when you’re thinking about your next big project. I remember when you were making things out of your wood scrap pile. The purses are my favs. So much talent and even more hard work. Thanks for sharing the good and the bad. We love you guys!!!! ❤❤❤

  • So you know how you find a decent or inspiring article somewhere on YT and you’re like, cool! But then you go to their websites, and it’s like one out of every 15 articles is inspiring and the remainder is tedious and useless. THIS IS NOT THAT website! So I found the article of the egg table from these folks and was instantly hooked. I was so happy to find every single article in their website is inspiring and worth every minute of my time. I’m now consuming every article they posted like Dorito’s. I’m really hoping they can keep up. I’m consuming thier content pretty fast. Couldn’t be happier that I found these folks. Inspired, creative, and so easy to eye guzzle. The quality and craftsmanship are the best of the best. I want to be them. They are living my dream. Thank you!!!

  • This is the first time I’ve watched this website and I am HOOKED! First, your level of sheer talent is something to be envied. The things you create are stunning! Second, the comedy! The way she interviewed you and called you a hero….😂😂😂😂😂. This was good stuff! I have an idea. Something I would give anything to be able to make myself. Either an Oak or some kind of dark wood – not cherry, but plain dark brown wood for a table a little smaller than the one with blue stones. It can’t be too big for my house. Have you ever seen a dead tree that turns white? We had one in our backyard that was struck by lightning and IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! About 8 ft tall, the perfect number of branches to make it look lean, but still a little full at the top, but not too full… it was just perfect. I told my husband I wanted to keep it forever, I loved it so much! I came home one day and he had chopped it down. I didn’t speak to him for 2 months. I was heart broken. But a tree just like that inside the frame of the table. It has to be that white/light grey color they turn when they die. With a few, I would say 5-7 autumn leaves surrounding the tree, as if a few fell off and a few were still on the dead branches. Ok maybe more like 9 leaves. These wouldn’t be green leaves, they would be dead like the tree. Like when the leaves turn and fall off in autumn. And they’re gorgeous colors right before they die; yellowish, a light rustic orange, a few different shades of brown.

  • You are an artist, remember to have more negative areas. Empty space makes the other parts more interesting. Have a focus point, and you will soar. It is like a poem, one word, one space, many words, more space. If that makes any sense. You are really really creative. Thank you for sharing your creation

  • Quality of work… Excellent. Furniture design… Functional. Individual visual design elements… beautiful. However, I find the combination of those elements jarring… a bit chaotic. The glass, pebble, and concrete top would look better on concrete or chrome support base base. The wood designs on the side and ends would be wonderful as a room divider or total wall covering, under a vaulted ceiling. The wood strips used at the base might work to break up the other wood designs used on the wall… or used for an entire furniture piece. The front of the drawers… not a fan. Overall, I have to admit, you have an outstanding set of skills and visually creative vision. 👍

  • First of all this is great art and you do the ideas justice with your honed skills. For me the ideas are always there. Should I choose to be aware of them. I was given life to create and not always in the physical sense. Sometimes just a smile from a life form brings a sense of joy. Ideas are gifts from the ultimate creator whom I chose to call God. I am grateful to have a chance to create. I’m just renting a booth in the arts fair of life with endless ideas given to me freely. Great to see others create with this awareness. That piece is priceless. It’s high functioning art. Thank heaven for YouTube and thank you for sharing this masterpiece. ❤.

  • I admire the remarkable craftsmanship throughout all the steps in this. I love the countertop, especially with the lights on below. It was fascinating to see the drawers and frame being built as well. The bottom part with all the wooden pieces and the elegant angles don’t speak to me; to my eye they don’t work with the countertop. The soft touch open and close drawers is such a nice feature. Again, for my taste I wouldn’t choose the paint color or the impeccable routing that made the remarkable design on the drawer front. This article was such a pleasure to watch! The editing was spot on. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity.

  • Maravilloso trabajo.

  • I’m in love with the final product! I won’t lie I held my breath when you dropped the top for 2 reasons: I had hoped you was not hurt and I had hoped that beautiful top wasn’t broken. Then, when I saw the plastic ring I was like, “Ahhh no!” I loved the interviews and your wife ribbing you I giggled. 😂 Great article guys!

  • I love watch this guy create these unique piece the work craftmanship is fabulous even the things that may not be my cup of tea I still like it and love perusal him create works of art I definitely can appreciate the Artistry creativity craftmanship the imagination it takes to create these unique beautiful pieces of art.
