  • I have a question and I realize a lot is factored in (where you live, material costs, etc) but could you please give me a ball park figure what these should sell for in a craft fair? I have 10 made already but want to make many more. Thinking of putting in sets of 3 and one of tge three using a cinnamon stick for stem to tease the senses. Just at a loss as to what they might sell for. Thx so much!

  • Rediscovering my love of crafting and generally mucking-about having recently started to remember what it is to be myself following 2 (wonderful) kids. I haven’t chuckled, clapped with glee or felt a kindred spirit of curiosity in craftiness in a long time. Thank you for taking the time to brainstorm, craft, film and edit and everything else that goes with this.

  • Me perusal this in the dead of summer: LET THE SPOOPY VIBES COMMENCE. Also maybe if you plan on doing something similar to the skulls in the future, try buffing the pearlescent pigment into the surfaces to give that pearlescent sheen (a lot like nail pigments that are buffed into acrylic or gel nails!).

  • I love the wreath and want my own now! As for the snake, next time you try something similar, I would suggest using polymer clay. You can also stuff it with wire and aluminium foil, but you can bake it right with the glass. You can even mix an acrylic colour into the clay and then bake it, if you‘re concerned about what will show on the inside of the glass.

  • You are just incredible! I always enjoy perusal folks make these dupes, and even though they are so creative they often turn out a little…well…cheap looking to me. You, however, have such an eye for really beautiful pieces and then are so brave to take it on!! I saw that wreath and thought “no way! There are some things you just can’t diy dupe.” BUT YOU DID IT! You NAILED it!! You are some sort of twisted genius and I just love it! Thanks so much for brilliant, quirky, ambitious articles. They really inspire me. Also, the snake is WAY better sculpted with metal cast look than a spray painted rubber snake. Those are the details that make your stuff look expensive. Even though the material dollars are low, the time and originality make these expensive pieces. You have to love the craft.

  • I love that you factor in all of your cost, including things that you already have on hand, but I do think realistically those items last for many many different projects and people who DIY tend to make many projects, so I think you actually did way better than your “savings” were, all of these turned out so well and I’m definitely making the snake candle holder and the skull!

  • The epoxy clay looks like an interesting sculpting material…I will have to look into it…Thanks…Your project results are impressive…I believe you aced them all…although I would have thought you have painted the flowers black to fit the Halloween theme…but they look good none the less…congrats on a good job!

  • OKAY! 👏 I absolutely LOVE this series! I am not even really into spooky type Halloween decor, and you made me want to make every one of these! Everything about this episode from the projects, the editing, your personality, and professionalism was just chefs’ kiss! 👩‍🍳 I need this “Can I Make It Cheaper?” series in my life weekly! For real… can we have it weekly… biweekly… monthly!?! 🤣

  • Yess :44 lol so funny and so true yes you have to physically stop yourself from buying so much stuff because it is really good quality now even the dollar tree but especially TJ Maxx HomeGoods they’ve been rocking it. Not because of my wallet because I don’t have any place to properly store everything and put it on shelves and make it look good…. Starting to be on every surface in every area of Halloween items?!

  • Laughed out loud at the Danie/Kanobe howl fest. Now you used 17.52 twice for the wreath & snake (glue) but I’m certain you did not use the entire bottles for those. And you used the 14.50 Compound price for both the skulls. Again, pretty sure you didn’t use the whole tub. Cut yourself some slack! hahaha. I think your DIY prices could be reduced. But loved, loved, loved each of them. I want to make that wreath! Hugs

  • My thoughts on using plastic/rubber toy snakes for any project. There is no way to tell what they are made from and some of the material wont take spray paint, I dont know about acrylic paint. I was making a big snake wreath, used flat black paint and some satin spray paint. Very cute, BUT the paint never fully dried, stayed sticky !!

  • I casted on my fall sweaters in the army august since it’s way too hot here to ever wear a knitted summer garment. So I’m ahead in theory but now I’m trying to finish two before I cast on another. However inspiration is making that difficult 😂 I was able to knit my son (8 months old) his Christmas sweater in August and now I’m considering one of the knitted stuffed animals you mentioned?? 😮

  • I love all of these projects. You ‘picked’ (haha) the perfect flowers for the skull vase. If I were to use any of these in my home it would probably be the wreath and the snake. However, I don’t decorate much for Halloween because I then have to find someplace to put them after Halloween (other holidays as well) and I have no space. So, I really enjoy others’ decorations.

  • That was fun to watch, with a feeling of “déjà vu”, I used to be an arts and crafts teacher in Paris and I was doing arts and crafts demonstrations at Rougier & Ple in Paris as well. My colleague/coauthor and I were epoxying dry flowers for our book, so we were hanging these dry flowers and coming back every five minutes to remove the drops until we kept the last beautiful drop just for the aesthetic, we laughed so much! By perusal you epoxying your skull, it reminded me of those good times. I am sure that my ex-colleague Jean Pierre Delpech, who is still in France, would love to watch your article, he is specialized in molding and epoxy, he wrote tons and tons of books on the subjects. I was imagining you at Rougier & Ple with us, we wouldn’t have been able to work seriously, we would have laughed so much 😂

  • For the wreath: If you use hot glue instead of the super glue and accelerator (SG & A), you can have a similar time save and cost less than the SG & A. Also, the wisps of hot glue that get stuck to the greenery can add a layer of faux cobweb to up the spooky. They also sell similar wreaths at The Dollar Tree here in the US or even just a wire wreath that is 18″ or 45.7 cm. Snake Votive: Dollar Tree for glass, aluminum foil, floral wire both thick and thin, mini hot glue sticks, and black acrylic paint that can be thinned with water to create a wash $7.50. Hobby Lobby for white or grey air dry foam clay, a bucket of 8.82 oz (250 g) is $3.99, may need 2 so $7.98, and DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Acrylic Paint gold 2 oz (59 ml) $1.89, Satin Krylon Spray finish $9.99. Total: $27.36 USD or $37.18 CAD Skull: Dollar Tree for 1 skull, 5 floral stems and 1 pack sand paper $8.75 USD. Home Depot for Patch-N-Paint 32 oz. Premium-Grade Lightweight Spackling $10.58, Hobby Lobby silver metal leafing (25 sheets at 5.5×5.5 in or 13.97×13.97 cm size) $3.49, and Metal Leaf adhesive, $4.99. Alternative: Rub ‘N Buff $6.49, DecoArt Enchanted Shimmer Acrylic Paint $2.59. Total: $28.41 to $30.49USD or $38.61 to $41.44 CAD.

  • I found stuff at Temu that’s trailing. My son is getting married and I needed lots of florals. Florals are hugely expensive otherwise. I should’ve known you’d do something amazing. Danie rules DIY and I’m here for it. I love apoxie sculpt it comes in black too. I found that at Blick.oh my gosh Kenobi guest appearance perfection

  • Okay, so for the wreath (as someone who makes wreaths as a DIY hobby all the time and is into fake florals for doing so, you wouldn’t get exactly the same look, but I would have used a foam wreath form. Some hot glue and u-shaped pins, and some dried Spanish moss, then given it a coat of a matte black spray paint. Not exactly the same. A little more haunted bayou than haunted forest. But dried Spanish moss is like crazy cheap and easy to buy in bulk. (Of course, since I’m a maximalist and can’t leave well enough alone, I would probably use some fake air plants and succulents pained black and pin them in too.)

  • Well, NOW you’ve done it—I love them all & all are (potentially) really simple: toy snake sprayed gold (I like your addition of some drybrush black), wrapped around vase; skull smooshed up w/ toilet paper & modpodge, pearlescent spray paint (must shake for hours); wreath using the $Tree amaranth on a thrift store Xmas wreath (OR…an old one of mine, bwah-ha-ha!). Alas, I have no howling dog—neither my 2 current pooches nor the last 2 before that howled. I’ll have to do a solo when I mess up. Ooo, ooo, ooo! Inspiration: black wreath, pearly skull in the middle, gold snake wrapped & hissing on top!

  • I live 45 miles from the Canadian border and used to go at least a couple times a year but since 9/11 you need a passport but now I renewed mine so I’ve got to get my butt back up there and spend my dollars! Back in the 1980s all you wonderful Canadians came to my small town because the exchange was far in your favor, now it’s the other way around! Thanks for all the great ideas neighbor!

  • I live in Asia, but I am shocked how expensive DIYing in CAN/US is. A lame bottle of spray paint 15 $😅😅😅 . Epoxy for an arm length snake 50$. 😱 .I find all of the DIYs grande, but still massively expensive. 😂 . I am tuning in for the Christmas edition. Maybe I can offer you a material supply chain, to make this enterprise reasonable. 😊

  • First time perusal! Love your article. I subscribed and rang the bell. Frankly when I saw that the bunch of juniper I thought this is going to look like 💩! OMGosh it was lovely! It wasn’t cheap to make and it wasn’t too bad to purchase either but if no Juniper around might as well buy it. Snake? I fast forward…live in FL and to me a good snake is a dead snake! Not politically correct to say, it offends a bunch of people. But I’m old and I can say whatever I want to say! 😅 The skeletons!!! OMGosh awesome too! Going to check more of your articles. Do you curl your hair? It looks great!

  • I love the TVO kids vibe flashbacks I get from your lighthearted narration 🙂 Cedar boughs might also work for the wreath. Grapevines are also easy to find even in the city. They are super easy to wind and dry for free. Since you are spray painting it all black, any old wire, string or yarn would do – also for free. Patience is also free if you skip the glue accelerator… And I bet lots of us have some old spray paint just hanging around… Good job! For the snake candle holder, could you use a dollar store rubber snake with wire glued on, and paint it? I can’t see how you used the full cost of the materials listed. Part containers? Well done. Since you are painting the foil with a pearlescence anyway, I wonder if you could have done free (newspaper and flour) papier-mâché. Not a fan of Hallowe’en, but always love perusal your creativity. xo

  • An idea for an easier way to make the snake: They make really inexpensive snake props that are posable. If you decide to try something similar again in the future, I would start with a prop snake as a base and add some details to the skin texture and facial structure with the apoxy, and then paint it once the clay cures.

  • I Love your aesthetic 😊 it’s just what I have in my own home all the way down to the Batman😂 my husband’s office is all Batman themed 😁 and the rest of my house is a “witchy cottage”/marvel, DC, etc. superhero/ antihero/ classic rock aesthetic, so finding your website has been Amazing lol you give me so much inspiration and ideas to try out 😁👍

  • I think these are okay uf you just want the look BUT if you want to keep year after year you are better off buying the quality pieces! Just something ive learned over the years. If you dont invest you are constantly spending less but little by little it all adds up and surpasses all the quality piece price.

  • The wreath is so pretty, too bad it will rot and fall apart much much faster than the faux one would. I come from a culture where wreaths are cheap wood cut and painted, maybe with a plushie hotglued to it. A wreath this gigantic and ostentatious would be kept for life, if not generations. With that consideration, the faux one will be worth the time it lasts, instead of this one that can stand 5 or 7 years at most.

  • I a Dollar tree rubber snake ran a thick piece of wire through the bottom of the snake because it was rubber and then bent it to how I wanted it and put it around a glass vase from Dollar tree so that I could get it to coil and then after that I took it off and spray painted it. The final cost was $8

  • For the skulls, you could’ve used flower wrap paper and decoupage glue and painted it with mother of pearl or platinum paint, or both. The thin paper would’ve given a very similar effect as the shells, and the paint would’ve done the rest. 🙂 And of course, use a sealer to protect and add some shine. Edit: Also, good doggo 😂
