What’s the difference between a spec home and a model home?

Spec homes are more affordable and visually appealing than model homes due to their lack of customization. They are built without a specific design in mind, making them less visually appealing. When buying a new home, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons of both spec homes and model homes before making a decision. A spec home is built specifically for sale, with the builder often having a model home to show potential buyers.

What is the 80/20 rule in decorating?

The 80-20 rule in interior design is a strategy to create a balanced and harmonious space by choosing one dominant style or color scheme for 80 of the room and a contrasting or complementary style or color scheme for the remaining 20. This approach ensures a cohesive look without being too boring or chaotic. For example, a modern and minimalist room can be achieved by using white, gray, and black, while adding bright colors or patterns for the remaining 20. For a cozy and rustic room, wood, natural fabrics, and earthy tones can be used, along with metallic accents or geometric shapes.

What do model homes do with furniture?

After a model home is no longer needed, the furniture is typically removed by the builder or developer, who may hire a professional moving company. The furniture is either stored or sold, depending on its condition and age. If in good condition and still valuable, it can be sold to a third party, such as furniture stores, antique dealers, or individual buyers. Some builders may also hold sales events, offering discounted prices for homeowners looking to furnish their new homes on a budget. However, not all model home furniture is suitable for sale, as some may have been heavily used or worn, making them less desirable to buyers.

What is the 60/30/10 decorating rule?

The 60-30-10 Rule is a decorating rule that helps you choose the best color scheme for your home. It suggests covering your room with 60 of a dominant color, 30 of a secondary color, and 10 of an accent shade. The rule aims to maintain a perfect balance of tones by choosing colors that mingle well with each other to create a subtle combo.

The dominant color should be applied to the most visible objects in the room, such as the walls and primary objects like a couch or bed. The secondary color should be chosen for its supporting role in the space, such as linens, curtains, area rugs, side chairs, and cushion sets.

When choosing the secondary color, ensure it blends well with the dominant color to create a blended look. The 60-30-10 Rule encourages choosing colors that will flow together and work in harmony, rather than taking over the entire color palette.

Why do model homes look so good?

The design of model homes’ windows prioritizes the incorporation of natural light and the enhancement of views, yet it fails to adequately address the issue of privacy. Such windows are typically cleaned and removed on a regular basis in order to maintain a high standard of cleanliness. The garden visible from the windows is well-maintained, which enhances the appeal of the view. The majority of windows in public spaces are surrounded by ornate drapery that is either left open or in a state of constant motion.

Not even talking about the tonne of weight behind it all. Beautiful design, its colors and how it blends everything together around the house for its individual themes, absolutely stunning

  • ?Questions? for Architects, Contractors, & New Home Builders, & Renovators alike: First question, why do so many new construction homes have no Side Windows? I’m no Engineer, but I would think that would negate proper cross-ventilation within the home? I even saw a new home in Pennsuaken, NJ that had EIGHT closely placed windows in the front of the house & ZERO on either side? I couldn’t see the back of the house? If it was simply a question of cost$, in this example, why wouldn’t the Builder just put six windows in the front & one on each side? From an outsider like myself’s point of view, a home with no side windows look awkward and not aesthetically pleasing at all..almost to a point of looking ridiculous and warehouse-like?! The second question is why don’t new windows have real frames? This of course is my personal take on the subject, but grids {fake panes} on a window make them look “cheap & flimsy”. Lastly, I have noticed a pattern with some existing two-story Colonial homes in Montgomery County, Pa in that many homeowners are replacing their current kitchen windows with smaller ones? It doesn’t make much sense to me, but I’m sure there’s gotta be an explanation?!
