I like blue and white together in a room, with a few touches of yellow. Also, although I am fine putting black with a lighter blue, I really don’t care for it with navy. When I wear a navy suit, coat, or dress, I always wear navy shoes. Navy shoes and purses are not that available in N. America, but are very popular in Britain. When I wear a navy outfit with navy shoes and purse, I love to add a pop of colour in a scarf. You can do this with red, yellow, lime green, hot pink, royal blue, or mauve. Even white adds a dimension to navy.
I absolutely love your articles. I’m an artist & I always find that all my paintings have a blue theme. I tend to be drawn to teal, duck egg tones. I’ve just bought a beautiful traditional style sofas in Avery very pale duck egg. My walls are panelled half way and are painted a putty colour with an off white above the panelling. I’m weirdly feeling stuck with what colour scatter cushions to put on the sofas 🤦♀️ – any advice would be hugely appreciated Ty 🙏
More, more, more!!! I love, love, love this article; what you said and the examples you showed. It’s not surprising that we love blues (sky and water), greens (grass and leaves) browns, grays, whites (wood and sand). And, LOL…God lets us think it’s our own idea! 🙂 Then, just when we think we’re set, He adds in sunrise and sunset.. I’m considering a dark turquoise and coral from my office. What are your thoughts?
Love love love this!!! Yes! I love blue! My home is decorated in various colors of blue- living room very Americana/nautical/classic. My Master is sky blue and white with gold- very reminiscent of David Yurman blue topaz and gold ring. Anyway- my car is royal blue. I love blue so much! My husband says we can’t have a blue exterior home… but it’s so pretty- ok I’m a fanatic- but what can I say- I love blue!
I am going with blue, pastel gray due to the tile that is there, with a black quartz countertop, and black accessories in my bath and powder room, what color is that at 10:29 in the article, it struck my maybe want button. I have been updating this ranch that was stuck in the 1968, old lady barf mode, lol. This bath is the only thing left to update, I am needing to make sure it goes with the rest of the house, I want a wow, it’s the most difficult to update for some reason. I think blue and black is the answer. I have been pulling my hair out.
Hi Valentina, I’m about to paint my living room Hauge Blue and I’m not sure what color curtains I should go for. I have a white Victorian fireplace in the middle of the room. I’m more blue and black or blue and dark gold or khaki lover. How can I incorporate the same blue in my bedroom? I e got the whole wall of windows which would be the focal point of the room. Please help 🙏
Love your articles you are always so upbeat and give such great decorating ideas! I would like too see more of the different shades of blue before you introduce another color. The mood board you created for your bath area was very helpful. When you changed the background color I wish you would have included several other shades of blue, such as a deep blue, light blue or even a turquoise shade. Thanks for sharing your advice with all of us. 🏝🌊🏞❤
Great segment on the color blue. It would be nice to hear more on additional colors (green, red, how about mustard yellow…). I recently started adding blue accents/decor to my home. I can’t decide what color to paint my kitchen island. I would like a nice blue or blue-grey color, but I can always go with black. My cabinets are all white and the walls are a light yellow. I’m going to get rid of the yellow walls and I found a nice white paint— Extra White by Sherwin Williams. Thank you for sharing—Oh! your pizza looks delicious
HELLO VALENTINA! I have watched so many of your articles but just until now, enjoying my calm lunch take the time to comment. This is harder and harder to pick a color, lamp chair, etc. I like mostly everything, every style and now this blue! Ok, now could you make someday a article on how to create a mood board? I mean tutorial, what program you use and sources or even lives showing this, I would love it. I would also love to see house of Valentina at night, I want to see your house spaces at nightlight and even show lamps lighting different spaces with table lamps, floor lamps, sconces flush lamps, etc. I’m obsessed with this subject. You look amazing in blue!
When I decorated my home several years ago I wanted to feel like I was at the beach (my favorite place in the world). No seashells or surfboards in my house, just the beautiful colors, lots of white, cream, light wood furniture, accented with blue throughout. I also had to add a few pops here and there of my favorite color, yellow, and I have to say that yellow also goes fabulously well with blue!
You are the sweetest !! I liked this article on blues. I always have loved the different shades but mostly beach blues; bright royal blue; aqua blue and recently the navy blues. I usually accent with navy blue with animal print colored pillows, plates & dishes, vases, decorative vessels. Again, I gained some new ideas with navy and black together that look cool. Keep doing these articles please. 💕
At the start of 2020 lockdown, I KNEW I had to go BLUE in my one and only living space with fireplace used daily by yours truly… it was the best switch ever.. it shifted my approach to really consider how to take best advantage of the HUB of my home. It’s serene and happy and anything i put in it or on the pieces coordinate seamlessly. No brainer No hassle Easy going and very forgiving color indeed in all it shades, hues, tints…I went as far as painting my main door BLUE PALISADE 111G and a forsythia wreath currently hangs against it and it POPS! The French “Le Bleu de Villers” on shutters.. ohhh my gosh! Love me some BLUE any day, any way!
I always say I am more of a green person than a blue person, but my bathrooms and my bedroom are blue and cream. 😆 Blue is so restful and soothing…so I use it in the areas of my home where I pamper myself and rest. I do LOVE green though. My kitchen, laundry room, and accessories in my living area are green. So basically, where I spend time in my home, with my eyes open, are green. Well, cream with lots and lots of green accents, and a little black to ground everything.
I know this article is old. But I want to get a deep blue (almost black couch) but my kitchen cabinets are black, countertops are white but I have natural golden oak floating shelves on concrete grey floors. I’m finding it hard to add this dark couch into my home but I love it. Can you do a article on how to decorate with two dark colors like black & dark blue. To be moody but not a dungeon 😂
Is teal a shade of blue or green? I love it and accent my home with teal lampshades and a teal/off white striped table runner. I need help with complimentary colors. I use cream, black, and camel. I love your inspiration photos; especially the dark blue ones. I want to use more blues…which would go with teal?
Blue and white are just such clean and fresh together. My sofa is blue (cornflower to be exact) and the walls are boring beige I’m trying to find a rug to work with this. Blue and black are my favorite colors to wear together most days, so easy. I wondered what made you have such dark walls because it looks great especially with your choice of furniture.
Valentina .. I’m getting caught up.. Wow I loved this information about the historical facts about blue. Of course we know it but it’s good to remember and think how much people love it! I love the blue black combo and all the different hues of gorgeous blues. I’m gathering my blues together to do something special when we move in our new home. 🦋🌊🙏🌎Thank you!
Love blue!!! My entire house is neutral walls, sofas, etc., but pillows and throws all blue and white….navy and white dishes and serving pieces, etc. My bedroom is all white with a mix of blue/white pillows and a fur throw at the foot of the bed. We’ve lived with it for 23 yrs. and it never gets tiring.
The way other people decorate with blue is how I am with reds and greens. Dark country red bedroom (cream walls), sage and white kitchen, olive/loden and maroon living room (another neutral wall) and a tiny bathroom that I’ve tried to get the robin’s egg blue, copper/chocolate/bronze brown and white all right in. It’s so easy for others but a disaster for me. 😂 I may scrap it for a safe sky blue and white. I wear a lot of warm colors so I guess it just translated.
It’s growing to be my favorite default. I’m replacing maroon and reddish colors with blues in what they call carolina blue, royal air force blue, steel blue, queen blue, that dusty medium range. A cozy vintage feel. So relaxing and clean in my opinion but yet easy to find curtains and accessories because it’s considered modern too.
I love blue. It can go with so many colors like greens, oranges, yellows, rust, wood tones! My favorite color is green . It also makes me feel like I am bring nature into my home. Recently I been into the rust and natural wood tones. My walls our gray with a bluish undertone. I love to see more of these articles!! Thank you!
I love your website your style and your decor. You have inspired me to refresh my home. I painted my room Night club. I used Cracked pepper in my guest room and I painted guest bathroom cabinet in Limousine leather. I love all 3 they look so sophisticated and classy just like you. Thank you for inspiring me. You are amazing! 💕
I love blue skies and water and I wear quite a bit of royal and navy, but have not decorated with any blue since the 1980’s… you young ones escaped that horrific dusty blue and mauve craze, but I have been forever traumatized by it. I haven’t had blue in my house since. 😂 This was a great article, though, and very informative! I love all your articles, Valentina! Love your style! 👏❤️👊
You know you’re a blue and white purist when someone says blue and cream and your brain screams but that’s not blue and white! I’d love more articles on setting up a neutral background and add in/change out vibrant colours so they shine and aren’t overpowering. When you love blue and white you want it everywhere. I wear blue and black all the time. Can’t wait for more colour articles.
