This video demonstrates how to replace an interior car light bulb in a Ford Focus. To do this, turn off the light and disconnect the battery for safety. Make sure you have a flat-bladed screwdriver, tissue, and a well-lit workspace. Remove the lens.
Interior lights are essential for providing light in emergencies, helping you see while driving at night, and making it easier to find things in your car. If your car’s interior lights are dim or broken, check out this guide on how to replace them.
Most newer models of cars use halogen bulbs for interior lighting. To remove these bulbs, use a cleaning cloth to wrench them out of their sockets. Use a flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool, wrap it in a thin cloth first to prevent damage to the surrounding trim or the lens itself. Gently insert the tool at the edge of the lens cover and pry it.
For a clip, gently pull the bulb out. If it’s in a socket, a counter-clockwise twist should free it. Either way, use a cloth or gloves to remove the bulb to prevent potential injury in case the bulb shatters.
Insert your screwdriver or interior trim removal tool and gently wiggle the lens free. Be careful not to break the plastic tabs which may be present in the lenses. Some vehicles have a slot for the lens to pop off using a small screwdriver or other thin plastic tool.
On some vehicles, the interior light is controlled by a relay, which will continue to draw power, though not as much as the bulb itself.
