How To Build A Shed’S Outside Window Trim?

Installing a shed window is a simple task that requires careful attention to detail. First, press the window flanges against the shed and screw through them into the rough frame. Confirm the window is level and plumb. Install a piece of flashing tape over the window flange at the top of the window. Finally, install window casing trim.

Installing shed window trim, shed window flashing, and caulk is essential for a finished look. PVC is highly recommended for this process. Justin demonstrates every step in the process, including taking accurate measurements of windows, working with different molding profiles, cutting and fastening the trim together on a workbench, and installing the trim.

If using exterior trim boards, ensure they are securely attached around the window frame. Seal any gaps between the trim and the shed wall with caulk to maintain a seamless connection. Prep the exterior trim with exterior grade paint and use Dyna Grip construction adhesive and brad nails to attach the trim to the shed.

Tack the windows in place with screws before checking for level and permanently fasten them. If building your own windows, sizing them to fit between the posts of your shed is an option. Hold the window in place, insert screws or nails into the hinge openings, and add window trim to cover up the flashing.

After adding the trim and windows, fill in the nail holes and seams with paintable exterior caulk. For tips on applying caulk, refer to the video on shed framing plans.

  • HELP ME please!!!. I purchased a 30L travel trailer. I am redoing the roof and found out everything has been framed with 2×2 pieces. My goal was to build a pitched gable above the RV so I could have a loft inside. I was going to be using 2×6 can anyone give me recommendations on if I’m able to use 2×4 or 2×6 as my rafter since the wall framing is only 2×2. Idk what to do please help

  • I can’t find the right dimensions for the smart side trim near me. All I can find is 1x6x8. Is it ok if I use other wood for the trim? The smart side is cheaper but unfortunately they only have that length. Or could I buy the smartside and then cut it to the right width and then add 2 inches to with some scrap? Any thoughts =)?

  • I was wondering if, when installing smartside 38, do I need to cut off the shiplaps at the corner butt joints? It was kinda hard to tell on your previous article, but maybe I am over-thinking it. I checked LP Products website and downloaded their installation pdf, but there is no mention of it. I would think so, but would appreciate your thoughts
