One way or works as intended, the other way the original fuse is coping with the consume of both circuits so you may get constant blown fuses. I have a question, I used this switch, I cut the negative wire in half (it’s for a particle seperater on a side by side) I cut the negative in half and put one end on the gold and one end on the outter silver. Left the middle one blank. And it works when I turn the switch on it works and the led lights up. The middle pin is blank. I’m confused if it is safe? And why it still works? I’m just using 2 pins, the negative wire only. And the led still lights up.
HOPING you may be able to help me. I installed a new grille on my wife’s 2008 Mustang that has fog lamps that need wiring and NO instructions. To make it simple to explain it also came with a wiring harness with a relay and fuse on the light/grill end and a push button switch exactly like the one you demonstrated. Not knowing the wiring without instruction the seller says they do NOT have. From the two wire harnessed fog lamps, that harness goes to a connected relay with attached black ground wire like you demonstrated and fuse .. after the fuse is a red wire that is about a foot long and stripped on the end. Also coming off that portion of the harness is a long white wire that extends to the other side and the switch. On the switch end which has a switch which is a push button with to small indicator lights .. Red and Green … sealed in a tear drop button the same as yours. That switch is connected just inside the firewall with a three wire plug that exits the drivers area and firewall.Once connected the harness turns into three wires … black with a terminal end to create another ground and red the goes back to the other side and is stripped near the relay etc. and the lone white wire that is the only wire that goes the total length of the wiring harness. In order to see what was needed I layer the wiring harness from the lights across the fuse box on the passenger side and across the engine to the drivers side. I grounded the two black ground wires and turned the switch on and took the two red wires that were stripped (though one may have had a terminal end ) onto the red terminal going into the fuse box.
I bought a bumper for my 21 Wrangler Sport without LED package. The new bumper has four LED lights to replace the original 2 halogen fog lights. Each LED has its own Rd/Blk wire. I would like to somehow connect those wires to the original fog light wiring harness that has that connector. This way they will all be controlled by the vehicle fog light button. Nice article, thanks. I want to use a stock Ford switch that was not on my truck originally. The back of the switch has three blades. I couldn’t figure out why there would be three wires until perusal your article. Is there any easy way to identify which blade would be the ground for the switch’s led light without having a stock connector plug and harness to look at? Thanks
You can never have enough ground. When I had a boat with many accessories, I installed a separate ground buss near the fuse panel so every power line had a place to attach a ground lead. Of course I did this because the boat was made of fiberglass. On my modified vehicles, I run a lot of ground straps all over the vehicle. All it takes is one ground strap to fail and now you might run into resistance problems.
Hello, I just installed that same wire harness to my aux beam. My “off” lights is always on even though the car is off. I’m assuming that’s not normal and if not can I tap in my red wire that is attached to my fuse to a fuse inside the engine bay instead of the positive on the battery. Thank you. Informative and only lacking one item. i want to turn on my high beams on the Sienna and I want the LED lightbar to turn on at the same time. According to the DOT laws you are not to have any lights positioned above your headlights and you are to have the LED’s on high beam only. Although i would like to vaporize objects in the way I want my lightbar to illuminate the road I am driving at 60-70 mph .
I have pre-installed aux switches in my bronco and I have a wiring harness for four ditch lights. The wiring harness has a switch and a relay. And I’m wondering where do I cut on the harness to attach to the ox switch and ground? Do I cut where the switch is and use those two wires or do I cut somewhere else on the harness like where the battery wires are at? I’m confused on how to do this and can’t find any answers even from the company I bought these from.
I bought some 4led grille lights (6 of them) to wire in my truck . They each obviously have 2 wires (red & black) coming off the back . Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’m confused how I will take 12 wires (6 red, 6 black ) and have them end up being only 2 wires to hookup to the switch . I have almost the exact same wiring harness (has the inline fuse & relay) . Do I need to solder the LED leads all together or is there an easier way to go from 12 -> 2 wires?
Have a general electrical question about wiring in SPST on-off switch to aftermarket driving lights. In VA these lights can only come on when the low beams are active, so I will have a wire as a trigger from the headlights connecting to the relay lead for the normal on/off switch. I don’t want to sue them all the time, as in city driving so, I am installing an old school high beam foot switch on the floor board to turn them on’off only when low beams are on. Question: What lead/wire to the relay do I install the switch inline The wire from the trigger wire that would be the normal on/off switch (makes sense), the fused 12VDC power in, the chassis ground, or the power out to the driving lights. Seems any of these would work, but not sure if one is optimal.

I only have an existing wiring rubber boot(already loaded with a bunch of wires). Hello I really need help, Do you reccemend any H8 foglight wire harnesses? I found one but the switch is the type that is not recommended. The switch has a black ground wire and a loose end red wire and I am also confused which fuse to use in the passenger fusebox. Could I please have help with this? I seen that on the iJDM website is that I must connect the loose red wire from the switch to the ACC +12. Should I get a add a circuit or do the ACC +12 instead?
Hello, can you please help. I have installed 2 number 60 watts of aux light in my royal Enfield at 12v that means 10A, the alternator of royal Enfield is 216 W roughly 18A. I have wired my relay such that it will start when I turn on the ignition key, yet I’m facing battery draining issue while I’m riding (i.e when alternator is feeding the current) I have seen many using 60w aux in enfield hence I assume the alternator can power these lights along with the other electricals. Can you advice me where I’m going wrong, though one thing that I did differently is that I’ve connected the black wire in the negative terminal of the battery. Appreciate if you can help
I am not good with those thinks I will rather to pay some one who know what they doing Wonder if you have store where I can go I had in the pass use a guy but after a while I have a problem with his installation and he denied what he did but I took it to another guy he show me what he did an explain to me and I though the previous guy did a good job but he did not so the new guy fix it and my front and fog light work fine the way I want it. Okay so I have a wire harness for a turn signal lights that go from the back to the front of my 22 Polaris Ranger and have 2 toggle switches 1 for horn and 1 for signals. Then agter the toggles I have 2 white wires hooked together with a eye hook, 1 for 12v constant, 1 for 12v -. Then have a pulse / bus bar plus with a black, red, yellow but would like to hook it up to come on with the key only so I dont drain the battery! Where would I put a relay and hook the wires also use the 3 wire plug that came with it? Hope to hear from you!

I want to use a different switch than the one it came with so it will fit in the switch panel I have. I have a 5 pin switch I want to use, but I’m unsure how to wire it as I know nothing about this stuff.
I bought a used light bar for my vehicle it came with a rats nest of wires. I got the light installed no problem but the wiring was a real conundrum. I am installing running lights on my Ram 3500 and bought a wire harness with switch (5 prong rocker switch, includes relay and fuse) from nightlight. Every time I turn the switch on it blows the fuse. I’m not sure what I’ve done wrong. My wiring from harness to lights is correct polarity.
Wired one of these in today. I used the cheap “ok” switch. This switch is usable when the ignition is on or off. The little light on the switch stays on all the time. Is this too much of a draw and will kill my battery? If so, how do I change this to on only when ignition is on. Also, my harness said to hook the ground to the battery, if that makes a difference.
i like in this movie you told us how you were about to put the fuse in long with the adapter you’re making with the pigtail screw inside of your truck you know half the E bike builders that put these E bikes together and ship them they ship it with the fuse intact into the battery and then they don’t describe where the fuse is so you can find it and pull it out yourself that’s why they’re all Catching Fire can you please describe this to the ebike builders and describe why they should not have a freaking fuse do you light their E bike on fire before it gets to your house door step shipped fully charged with fuse in spot and without proply having a language barier on the shop to pay to get slamed the door when they continue the bike sales on internet only no shop will work on any name builders bike only new ones.
You forgot to explain that the add-a-circuit must be installed so that the current actually flows through the fuses. If you install it “backwards” then the current bypasses the fuses and your circuits are no longer protected by the fuses. Use a multimeter to determine which side of the original fuse is the line side, i.e. the hot, then install your add-a-circuit so that the load, i.e. the red wire, is on the other side of the fuse. This will insure that the current will flow through both fuses and that both circuits are properly fused and not a fire hazard.
