How Do I Color Inside Paint?

Tinting paint at home is a simple process that can be done with the right components. One option is to purchase pre-tinted paint, which can be mixed with colorant to create a custom hue. Another option is to mix multiple colors to achieve a more intense color. Clear glaze can also be used to achieve the perfect shade.

Tinting primer is especially helpful when changing the color of a room from light to dark or from one strong color to another. It can also help cover up stains or dark marks on the walls. Latex paint can be tinted by mixing your base paint of choice with colorant, a pigment, white latex paint, or another lighter-colored latex paint. Gradually adding the tinting material in small portions into the base.

Painting paint is a relatively simple process, and with a little bit of knowledge, you can get from color chip to paint brush. The primer acts as a base coat and helps the paint adhere to the surface. Tinting the primer can help achieve color matching with your desired paint color in fewer coats.

Although tinting paint is harder than pouring colors in and mixing with a paint mixer drill attachment, getting the perfect shade takes extra work. If Kool-Aid or food coloring were a viable option, every paint maker would use it. Tinting colorants are a huge cost that can be avoided by using a cheaper alternative like Kool-Aid or food coloring.

As long as the base color is white, you can tint British Paints Ceiling Paint Flat Acrylic as long as the base color is white.

  • Is there any online service that sells tint? I am having a heck of a time finding it for personal use locally. It seems like most paint shops where I live aren’t prepared to sell it, only mix it to products. They obviously have tint for the machines, but no pricing / not for sale,so the staff is usually hesitant. If anyone knows of an affordable online shop that serves europe region please let me know 🙂

  • perfect timing mate, i need to add some tint into some white trim paint for my window and picture rail trims… too easy once you’re shown and I like how you double shake the bucket each time you pour out the paint to stop it from over spill or dripping, will be using that top tip as well… thanks again, hope the shoulder is holding up in this winter cold mornings
