Why is it called a vista?

The English term “vista” originated in the mid-1600s and is derived from the Italian word “vista”, meaning “a view” or “a sight”. The Latin verb “vidēre”, meaning “to see”, is the root of view and vision. Traditionally, a vista was used to describe a narrow view of something, such as a mountain view or a cityscape between skyscrapers. Today, it is often used to describe any wide outdoor view considered beautiful, often referring to an uninterrupted view from a high place, such as a balcony or mountaintop. People love to look at vistas, and they often take photos and paint them, often combining the word with a specific view type in phrases like mountain vista and ocean vista.

  • The Carnival Sunshine has a Havana Bar which we enjoyed a lot during our cruise in 2018. It was not quite as big as the one on Vista however the decor is identical. Carnival Sunrise had the Pig and Anchor barbecue when we sailed on that ship in December 2021. The Barbeque was delicious to eat! I like that Vista has both! Enjoyed the tour mates!

  • Back in January, my cousin and I sailed out of Tampa on the Carnival Paradise to Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We had such fun that we decided to do it again but this time out of Port Canaveral as we wanted to try a bigger ship this time, and we chose the Vista for next January (Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Grand Turk) and I’ve already started to check out the Vista. This article was a big help, can’t wait till next January!
