Deckover Interior Floors Are Suitable For Use?

Deck stain can be used indoors, but it is important to consider the type of product and if it is specifically designed for interior use. Due to its strong smell and potential for fumes, deck stain is usually not recommended for use in living areas. BEHR ADVANCED DeckOver is an innovative solid color coating that can bring old, weathered wood or concrete back to life. It is recommended for properly prepared above-grade interior and exterior weathered or cracked horizontal and vertical surfaces such as wood, composite, and concrete.

Behr Deck Over can be used on vertical plywood and offers UV protection. To apply the deck over, follow these step-by-step instructions: replace any rotting or unstable boards, use a wood filler to fill cracks and holes larger than 1/4″, and overcoat using a brush or thinner nap roller. For an extra textured finish, use the Advanced DECKOVER Textured.

Behr Deck Over is not recommended for drivable surfaces like garage floors and driveways. It is recommended for properly prepared interior and exterior weathered or cracked horizontal and vertical wood and composite surfaces such as decks, railings, and textured deckover. The All-In-One Wood Cleaner should be used to prep the surface and allow it to dry completely.

The DeckOver will work, but you will have to redo it a lot sooner than with a good product. Emerald is an excellent option, but DeckOver® is not recommended for driveable surfaces like garage floors and driveways. It is also great for concrete surfaces such as Pool Decks, Patios, and Sidewalks. Do not use it on drivable surfaces like garage floors and driveways.

In summary, BEHR ADVANCED DeckOver is a durable and cost-effective solution for resurfacing old wood and concrete surfaces. However, it is not recommended for use on drivable surfaces like garage floors and driveways.

Is deckover a paint or stain?

Behr Deckover is a thick paint that fills cracks and conceals splinters on decks. It looks like paint, not a stain. A customer complained about dirty footprints on the deck, so scrubs were used. It provides excellent UV protection from graying in areas not peeling. After one winter, the deckover began peeling heavily, but was prepped according to manufacturer directions. All Behr stains tend to peel, especially in cold-weather conditions.

Can I use exterior deck stain inside?

It is inadvisable to apply a polyurethane or varnish top coat to this item, as the addition of a top coat over an exterior wood or deck stain may result in peeling.

What is Deckover used for?

BEHR Premium Advanced Deckover Coating is a product that resurfaces wooden decks by filling in cracks and taming splinters, extending the life of the deck and living space. To ensure success, follow the product label or website for surface prep and application steps. One 3. 78 L of ADVANCED DECKOVER Coating can cover up to 7 m2, and it is recommended to fill cracks, nail holes, and accessible board ends before applying the first coat.

Does deckover rot wood?

It is not advisable to recommend the product due to the occurrence of adverse effects, including the formation of paint bubbles and board rot, which can lead to the necessity of multiple replacements.

Is there a difference between outdoor and indoor stains?

Indoor and outdoor stains differ mainly due to the presence of additives, such as UV protection and chemicals that prevent mold, mildew, and fungus growth. Oil is considered the best stain due to its deep penetration into wood and lack of clear coat maintenance. However, it gets darker with each coat and may not have the same luster as water-based stains, which shine in sunlight. Understanding the pros and cons of water and oil-based stains is essential for maintaining a clean and hygienic log home.

Can I use deck stain on interior floors?

It is generally inadvisable to use exterior stain formulas indoors due to the potential health risks associated with the use of harmful fungicides. Similarly, indoor stains can create comparable effects; however, external decking stain is designed for pressure-treated wood and is therefore unsuitable for use on doors. The optimal solution is to apply a wax coating in the desired color.

What is the Behr deck over lawsuit?

Behr DeckOver Resurfacer has settled a class action lawsuit alleging that the product, marketed at a premium price, deteriorated on consumers within months of application. The lawsuit claimed consumers paid more for the product due to its thicker coating, which was advertised as longer-lasting and less upkeep. Behr admits no wrongdoing but agrees to pay Class Members a refund for the gallons of the product used and any necessary repairs.

  • I’m a painting contractor 38 years now I’ve used this product too many times to count never had any problems, I power wash with bleach beforehand. Remember this product is not an end-all it is for a deck that is cracked and weathered and for people who don’t want to spend or can’t afford to buy new decking material. P.S never use a roller always brush by hand morning is the best time for application.

  • I used this on a wraparound deck and it changed the entire home. I even went very light grey, almost white and was impressed with the outcome. I know there have been complaints about peeling, etc. My contractor did the prep work and I have had no problems going on three years in. If you just slap it on over a dirty, unprepared deck it probably won’t last. But when you power wash, sand where needed and pay attention to the actual directions it works great. No regrets.

  • We actually had to replace our old deck from the previous house owner.we rebuilt it ourselves with hard labor in redwood costing us an arm and a leg.well you know how you like to walk on a deck barefoot if you’ve ever had a sliver on the bottom of your foot and thought that hurt wait till you get one from redwood that’s a real experience. So we decided to try the Behr deck cover in a reddish color and it covered nicely smoothing over the slivers that allowed us to walk over it barefoot many times.the deck is 3yrs old and standing up ok probably because the redwood was fresh cut an raw.there however is some fading and small cracks showing up so it’s about time to get after it again before I get a sliver ..LOL

  • I see a lot of people complaining about this product peeling and not lasting. If you read the product information, these resurfacers require the deck surface to be stripped, sanded, and filled to a bare and flat surface to adhere properly. Not removing old stain or paint and going over it is a recipe for disaster. Preparation is the most important factor with this product.

  • So far no reviews from anyone 1-2 years after. Here’s my take: While Deckover did look great after application, 1-2 years later it began to peel, especially on the old worn wood that Behr and similar products claim will work great. I expected this peeling and understood I’d have to reapply at this time. What I’m finding is after I peel off the paint I’m finding the old wood in much worse condition: wet, rotting. The product seems to act like rubber undercoating on a rusted auto frame. I’m believing that eventually the Deckover and like products eventually deteriorates, creating microscopic defects that allow moisture under thus causing an unseen deterioration of the wood. I installed new wood on the steps 2 years ago and the Deckover is still holding up. Seems to work great on new wood but just doesn’t work well after 1-2 years on old wood that shows signs of neglect.

  • Used this on my deck and absolutely regret using it. With in a year is was peeling. Within two years it was coming off in small sheets. The only place that looked good was areas that didn’t see extreme weather. I had to completely strip everything off all wood that it touched and went with a semi transparent oil based sealer stain. Time will tell if that is better. Buyer beware on this product.

  • You still talk to your brother @ Freakin’ Reviews? LOL, thanks for the upload this came out great. I know this DeckOver has ton of negative reviews after a couple seasons so hopefully yours stays looking good. Most of the negative reviews were user error and maybe give us a quick update after the season is over to see how its holding up, thanks again.

  • They tried to sell me deck over but I had a painted porch that wasnt sanding down. Since the wood was pretty worn from the elements, I choose Valspar for weathered wood. Not sure what to do with our addition other than use Johnson water seal for now. We did paint the flooring grey and letting the railing naturally turn grey.

  • We used deck over on our deck roughly 5 years ago. It was terrible to work with, but looked beautiful for 1 summer. Then it was a matter if just perusal it peel a bit more every year. Last year we removed a section of deck because the wood was rotting. This year we completely removed what was remaining. There were several areas where the wood was rotting. Upon looking at the under side, we could see that the wood was just completely wet underneath. So much that there was mold on some boards. I can understand a product not holding up, but never expected it to rot the deck.

  • I don’t know if you’ll see this comment, but just a thought … I wonder if you could use a Behr paint stain (same color), to brush between the boards. Probably cheaper, goes a longer way because it’s not as think, and it would probably have a better run down between the boards. Then roll the rest of the deck like you did with the Overdeck! I think it would All blend together. You might have to let the paint stain dry before rolling. Might work?

  • My 9 yr old deck looks like a 35 yr old deck because of a similar product. Why- the deck over traps moisture. Im the 2nd owner and i even questioned if they used treated wood because it rotted so fast. Yup its treated wood.. and nope ill never touch this crap again. Hope you have a better time with yours.

  • Good luck with that! The only thing that might save you in that you have covered your deck. Likely, you will end up with the same peeling, horrible results in a year that the rest of us experienced with Deck Over. We were so thrilled with our beautiful deck (14×33) 3 years ago. Then, after research, we chose this product. What a nightmare it’s been after a year. Yes, we are in the Carolinas, too, and blamed the sun until we saw all of the negative reviews from all climates. and lawsuit against Behr. It should be taken off the shelves.

  • just starting to watch n this looks like a disaster in the making. Deck over is for wood that needs replacing but owner can’t afford to replacement of the entire deck so you get Deckover to “make it look” much much nicer cause it looks more uniform then it has in the last 10 yrs. should have gone for penetrating stain n keep up with maintenance

  • If your deck is NOT exposed to sunlight and/or moisture of any kind OR you plan on replacing it after a year, Behr DeckOver is awesome! My deck’s surface was stripped and sanded before using DeckOver. After DeckOver, it was beautiful… for about a year and then it began to deteriorate. By the second year, it looked worse than before we painted it. I wish I had joined the class-action lawsuit a few years back. Home Depot agreed to give me store credit for the product’s cost but not for the cost of labor for putting it on, taking it off, or painting it again.
