In Final Fantasy XIV Online, you can create loft-like spaces by placing windows on housing partitions and wooden beams. This allows you to create a more flexible building without a basement. To apply walls to blank partitions, simply click on the correct wall and place it against the wall. Turn off surface snap and place the window behind the partition. The window will pop forward onto the partition and you can move it.
To place windows on housing partitions, use storage placement to put them on the wall and wooden beams. Storage placement also allows you to put furniture onto the railings for extra space. To create your own wall trim and accent wall, follow these steps:
- Click on the housing menus and right-click on the partition.
- Select the correct wall and place it against the wall.
- Turn off surface snap and place the window behind the partition.
- Move the window from the storeroom and place it over the panel or partition where you want it to stick. Use your subcommand menu hotkey to place it.
In addition to creating loft-like spaces, you can also use the new slanted wall and window furnishings in FFXIV Online. Storage placement allows you to put windows onto walls and wooden beams, allowing you to create unique and functional spaces.
In summary, using partitions and wooden beams in Final Fantasy XIV Online allows you to create unique and functional spaces without the need for a basement.

Hey guys! I check all my articles after every major patch to make sure they still work. If you’re having trouble, here are the most common things people run into and how to fix them! 1. The partition won’t lift: Make sure your riviera wall shelf is hitting the partition’s hitbox! Use the rotate tool and click on your partition to make sure—I find the rotate circle is the best guide. 2. The partition won’t stay put: Make sure you’re rotate locking! If you do that and it still doesn’t work, you may need to lift it higher—all furnishings will snap back to the floor if they’re too close to it. 3. The partition falls while you’re lifting it: It will do this if you try to push it up too far in one go. Make sure your riviera wall shelf sits just below the bottom of the partition! 4. It doesn’t work with some partitions: This glitch technically works with any non-wall-mounted or tabletop furnishing in the game, though there are easier options. You can also try the technique in this article, it’s worked for some people but no guarantees: youtube.com/watch?v=LOLbnswqTBA
Great guide. It’s shame we even have to do this. The fact that we have to glitch items instead of just being able to decide freely where to place them demonstrates the technical idiocy of the FFXIV dev team. Every aspect of housing is an absolute nightmare. It’s shocking people with put themselves through this.
Hello! Maybe you are able to give some insight with the current issue I am having. I’m attempting to float bathroom tiles for a concrete ceiling look with the stage panel and wooden loft. Everything is fine up until the point I need to switch to KBM setting. When I select, rotate once, right click, exit menu, and exit/re-enter the house everything falls back to the ground. Very rarely does one tile stay up. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. The bathroom tiles are pretty high up in the air in a small house (just below the ceiling light).
Hey! I’m having trouble with this. It works as long as I’m in the house, and will look totally fine, but as soon as I leave and come back the partition will be the on the floor… This happens even if I’m using something like a half partition and it’s literally touching the ceiling with its top, so I know it’s not due to being too close to the ground. Super frustrating…
The most demoralizing thing in this game as of right now is when you follow guides like these as close as you can and it falls back onto the floor… Edit: does this not work for half partitions? Im trying to use half partitions as railing for my loft but everytime i get it right and rotate it, it always falls down when I come back into the room. I tried doing it half way up. Same method. I come back in and it worked? Like what is happening? I’ve spent like 4 hours trying to figure this out and it doesn’t work how I want it to but works when I only go half way up to my loft area. This is unbelievably frustrating lol
Hey ive been trying this earlier today after most recent patch and get it to float up once but when i try to float it a 2nd time to go higher it just falls back to floor seems to be exiting to menu that is the cause of breaking the glitch and im certain ive been doing everything right but would be good if you could check and see if it works for you still or if it is in fact broken now due to patch
This article saved my FC Room. I play on the Jenova server, and the FC I’m in now are awesome. The FC Estate needed a kitchen, so we could use the main areas for other things. So far, the loft area has a nice cosy feel to it, with a nice private room and Paper Partition door. I spent a long time trying to get screen partitions to float like other furnishings, your article showed me that this trick is probably good for the real annoying-to-float parts. Now the FC can have an awesome eatery, thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial. Really helpful and backed by a beautiful voice so it’s a pleasure for the ears when you need to rewatch the thing 5 times because you’re struggling learning. In the end, I mixed the controller and the mouse because I did not manage to rotate the item with the controller; it was turning purple while with the mouse, orange. Mind that you have to activate the rotation mode (2nd icon on the bottom) which is also why it’s easier with a mouse since controller natively mixes placement and rotation while mouse does not, on my end at least.
thank you very helpfull all your articles! I am so close to have all ready! but I have a paper partition and I can’t lift it! maybe I have to find the right point to lift it! Can you please log in my account and do that for me? lmao I would appreciate it! how much would you charge me for that? please please! Lol I did it! Ty for the guide!!!! Much love!
I can’t get it to work. It’ll float just fine, but when I select it to rotate in order to lock it, it doesn’t stay afloat in the preview like it has with yours. It always slams back down after selecting it. I’ve tried controller and keyboard in an empty house, so collision isn’t an issue. Some insight would be of great value!
