Are Phone Contacts Deleted When The Home Layout Is Reset?

Resetting the home screen layout on your iPhone can be a simple process that restores the default layout that your current version of iOS came with. This method does not uninstall any apps from your iPhone or delete their data, but only the position of apps gets reset. To reset your Android device’s home screen to default settings, open Settings, tap on General, swipe down and tap on Reset, then tap Reset Home Screen Layout.

For iPhone 12/12 Pro users, resetting the home screen layout is as simple as diving into the settings, tapping a couple of options, and confirming your decision. All your preferences and settings are reset, and information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. If you did not add the contacts to your SIM card, you will lose them after a factory reset. Contacts are stored in the /data partition of the device.

A factory reset is just a clean up process that includes permissions to clean and reset your device. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before resetting it. If you don’t want to replace it with another contact, the only way to do so is to delete your phone (remove) from the Bluetooth menu.

Resetting an iPhone refreshes settings but keeps personal data. Erasing all content and settings removes all data, like a factory reset. Always, a factory reset will remove any personal data and return the phone to the state it was in when you first took it out of the box. Resetting your home screen for your iPhone to default settings restores the default Home Screen layout that your current version of iOS came with, only removing your custom settings.

  • Basically there is no Recents anymore, which was likely the view most people lived in. Recently saved does not even include photos. So now there is no way to just see your recent photos, as the top default grid has synced album photos intermixed. Absurd! I’m right on the edge of returning my 16, thankfully kept iOS 17 on my ok device.

  • It’s still suck tbh … especially for people who sync photos from their macbooks. Now all the photos are at the same place making everything chaotic. Before it was a separation between your sync photos and the photos you actually took or saved via your phone in the recent folder. Apple better add the camera roll back or simply add filter to hide sync photos on the main gallery. Can’t believe how dumb this update is.

  • Rearranging things doesn’t help. Previously you could scroll your photos, then jump across to a shared album, then come back and you were where you left off. Sticking everything in one huge long scrolling list is an absolute usability travesty. Not to mentioned auto-looping articles, you can’t scrub in fullscreen, it’s just a disaster.

  • Thanks for your article. I absolutely hate the new IOS photos app, it was perfect the way it was. Apple is just changing stuff and not for the better, and the new camera BUTTON is an absolute worthless fail. I think when the Galaxy S25 series gets released I’m going to switch from my 15 Pro to Samsung.

  • This app is a failure in many ways. When I open my photo app I don’t want ALL my business popping up on the screen. I also think having the hidden folder that accessible defeats the purpose of it being a hidden folder. Bury it back in the app settings it shouldn’t be there. Now I’m stuck with this horrible update because apple threw the update message on my screen and I fat fingered update now.

  • Many thanks for that, its much more user friendly with those settings. One thing I did notice immediately after customising the app was that the yellow dot in the top right corner of the phone came on (indicating that the microphone was enabled). Leaving the photos app turned it off, and going back into photos turned it on so it was definitely connected to that app. Half an hour later it stayed off when going into the app. Any ideas what was going on? Perhaps voice control of customisation is planned for a future update?

  • I was only messing with it yesterday to go through some articles that I made to convert them to audio, but I was noticing a bunch of extra stuff on the screen. I might try this out for accessibility purposes because having to scroll through and listen to all these different things when I know exactly what I’m looking for is extremely annoying.

  • It sucks. I sync my photos from folders housed on my laptop. In prior versions of ios the photos in my albums (folders on my laptop), wouldn’t co-mingle with the Library of photos (pictures taken with my iphone). With ios 18, my albums are co- mingling with my library and the pics I took with my phone are extremely difficult to find. Is there anything in settings I can adjust to help with this? Why do they always screw things up that were perfectly fine?!?
