Hi Kristen, I was wondering where the large stand with the marble top which is under the tv at your friend’s apt makeover is from. I have already ordered a few items from your suggested items, but that is not listed. Thank You and you do such great work. You seem to be enjoying making folks happy with their homes. You have helped me.
I changed some things around in the home today and for some reason I could not get that perfect look with my decor pieces. I believe I need to try adding height to them as you’ve stated. Have you giving any pointers on how to style a dinning room buffet/credenza so it doesn’t look like a bedroom dresser, or that it isn’t looking ready for a meal either if that makes sense? Thank you either way
I made a mistake with the upholstery. I picked black/white/grey busy fabric with cherry wood chairs. The whole dining room is traditional, with rich brown and gold colors. My chairs don’t match anything now and make the room look bustling. Do you have any suggestions on how to diminish the dynamic look of chairs?
….Years ago… ( decades )..Layered draperies or curtains were the NORMAL look, …BECAUSE IT WORKED. … and offered privacy . It’s so interesting to me how things that were ” Classic design ” and worked were ” considered dated ” at some point (??) …Now, ‘ Designers ” are bringing these things back, like it’s ” new ” …. Especially the curtain fullness. I have ALWAYS used minimum 3 panels of curtains/ draperies. I say co- ordinate the SIZE of the CHAIRS to the table, as well. … I see tables that have these ” short chairs ” that look so odd with the table .
Love these ideas. I am so tired of beige. I moved into a new house almost a year ago. I started out with nothing. Every piece of furniture I have purchased is some sort of beige to brown. I bought, at a designers recommendation, a natural fiber rug (off white) that sheds like crazy. The rug is way too big for my space. It’s 10×12 and I probably need the next size down. My couch is a cream color and I bought off white curtains and have drilled 3 different widths of holes (with anchors) to get the right width). Now I have decided that I will have the chairs recovered in a bright floral print and paint the pony wall a pop of color to the entryway, something to coordinate with the chair. I had a runner in the entry hallway but it was too short and I didn’t tape it down so the dog did some surfing as she bolted to the door. You are so inspirational and I appreciate all of your suggestions.
I’ve been perusal your design for years. Love the apartment makeover. Recently bought a new house with plantation shutters and struggling to determine curtains or no curtains because I love when they’re completely open, but the design of where thr windows are doesnt allow for all of them to be open at the same time. maybe some how to pick curtains tips and tricks besides high and wide would be something you make a article about.
I’m barely into the article, and windows treatments are not a low cost upgrade. Especially if one has non-standard size of windows. I have looked so much for options for window coverings both in curtains and other coverings, also the right type of curtains rods/tracks…. after 6 years I still haven’t found a good something that’s not expensive.
Hey Kristen! Love the tips especially the one on having two window treatments together. I have curtains in the living room but most of the time my husband likes to keep them shut because of privacy reason lol. Where as I loved to keep them open so I need either shutter blinds or Roman shades. My heart keeps going back to the plantation shutter blinds and was wondering what’s your take on them with curtains? Should I get Roman shades instead? Do shutter blinds look dated? Would love to hear your feedback 🫶🏼
Hello Kristen! You are my favorite. I am perusal you from overseas, but I got the best design ideas from you. Now, I am planning my country style kitchen and I am very excited. The way you present your articles- is simple, interesting and the stuff you use very affordable, like Walmart products. Thank you so much.😊
I could really use rugs in my space for so many reasons, but unfortunately (even with rug tape) it’s a trip/fall risk for my mom and her walker. Although 🤔, she does not go in our master bedroom or tv room. I know the dog would love a rug – he slips and fishtails himself into walls while having his bouts of zoomies 😜
Hi from Australia Kristen. Thank you for your tips that don’t break the bank. I’m looking to do split bamboo blinds under lovely slightly warm white curtains for a more holiday feel. Also mats around artwork from Society6. Do you advise same cour mats, or ones that tie 3 artworks together, using a colour from each artwork??
Hi Kristen. I am a huge fan and watch everything you post. I love your design style and aesthetic. In the past, you did a segment on window treatments, specifically shades and I loved them. Thought I had saved it but cannot find it. Can you please share the link again. I am looking to replace my wood blinds with shades, as you have shown they look so clean and simplified and I love that look. TIA
I have been in my house for almost three years. I finally hung some cafe curtains in my kitchen. I have curtains and rods. But I’m not sure if they are long enough. So I haven’t put any curtains up yet. Well, I don’t have them for my living room, yet. Those I will make sure are long enough. We put our dogs in our bedroom when we don’t want them getting out the door. Or we have company and we’re eating. They are all beggars. And one climbs up in the bedroom window. I’m kind of afraid to put curtains up in there. I’m afraid they will rip them down. We already have blinds on all our windows. But I have been wanting curtains since we moved in. So I guess I’ll get busy and put some on my windows. The grandkids pulled the rod out of the wall at our old house. So I guess if the dogs do it, we’ll fix it.
Hi, I love all the ideas, ai actually used some already and didn’t even realize what I was doing. Lol but I added the rug in the kitchen when we renovated it. I have leather furniture and added really pretty velvet and faux fur pillows. My kitchen light over the island space is rectangle like the island. The curtain technique I learned a while ago so I raised all of them to the ceiling and added an under layer. And my mom always had beautiful plants and flowers in our home growing up and she taught me how to take care of them so I just followed her footsteps on that. Thx I’ll keep perusal. I told my friend I remember when she first started just re decorating her parents house and her sister’s house..keep up the good work!
🤍💙Similar with someday before, I think they’re good idea that are pieces together. I can make examples with two coffee tables together or two decorative 😡shelves🤢 together. so after ending implied space, me: host! can divide another one. In conclusion this time too Interior Designer Kristen has done recordable work.🤍
